As a new poster here I think the site is great. Their aren't many websites out there that you can truly "talk" music with people that have tastes as broad as the members here. I have already been turned on to some great music by some of the senior members here!

i will stand up and take half the blame for this site going down hill.. haha :p:

and your all talking about how there's to much fighting going on here.. well thats where the action is. if everyone stopped doing that this place would pretty well be dead because all of the fights gets everyone in motion and then everyones posting and more people seem interested and come back more offten to see whats on the go.. then post some more..

when it comes to who's a good poster or not, it doesn't matter because everyone who post other then myself and MURDER JUNKIE (know most of post are pointless and we just wish we could talk about porn haha jk) think there post are worth reading and think they all have good opinions on things or they wouldn't post..

NOBODY GETS ME me so funny! haha

sense i've joined this site back in dec 05 its been slowing down a lot here and i make less and less post, but i still come here about 100 times a day and chect in on things.. there's just nothing much going on here anymore.

i find it really strange that there are so many members to this site yet there only seems to be a steady 25 posters give or take.. i don't mind it cause i'm used to everyone here like when i was in school i would get used to the people in my class and it would just seem strange without so and so.. well its just like that here... wether i like you or not it would be strange without some of you.. its true and i know a lot of you see it that way as well.. i mean if bill left so would a lot of the entertainment.. get my point?

Most likely, yes.

In fact I'd argue that punk was a movement back toward pop.

Musical styles aren't subjective. Perhaps read a musical encyclopedia, it's like saying encyclopaedias are subjective. If we could grasp what "knowledge" really is there wouldn't be so many arguments. Greenday are punk-pop. I've read about the definitions of what it means to be punk-pop and have applied it to them. I have also read it in a musical encyclopedia and other sources that they are the grade A example of punk-pop. To me, that's as close as to "knowledge" as you're gonna get on things such as this. But the main argument is actually contrasted with the word "punk," and what it means to be punk, which (some will tell you) mightn't even have anything to do with the music you play. Maybe some people just aren't aware that “punk-pop” is a word and has a definition (which obviously can't be argued), just like any other word - although this one was contrived in the music scene for whatever reason (it's irrelevant), and wasn't necessarily inducing that Greenday are “true” punk. You can argue with the derivation of the term, but it's not going to get you anywhere. You might as well write a complaint to the editor of dictionaries.
If everyone comes to grips with that then it'd hopefully solve the problem of these silly debates.

Punk can be a loose term, just because a band isnt really anti establishment or whatever or because they're very popular, it dosent make them not punk, the fact of the matter is, Green Days songs follow the standard punk rock format.

Nasally, smirky vocals?

Check.

Substandard rhythm section?

Check.

Very distorted, downtuned guitars?

Check.

Simple 3 and 4 chord riffs?

Check.

Lyrics that have elements of nihilism, anti-social sentiments and social satire?

Check.

Catchy verse/chrous/verse style pop songs?

Check.

Sounds punk to me.

And that's more or less where punk-pop comes in, loosely based on your criteria.

Don't forget about how punk can be more arty e.g Joy Division.

Bands like Greenday revitalised punk, changing it, hence why there is now the term punk-pop.

You know, I have read in this thread, more than once, that there aren't any 'new posters'.

When a new poster arrives, he/she is promptly held down and beaten. I don't know if it's some sort of gang mentality or what, but I have seen it several times.

A new poster starts a thread, and instead of getting:

" We already discussed this topic, here is the link. Have a read, and add your opinions. And welcome."

They get:

"You f^ckin' retard newbie, if you would use your G.D. brain, blah blah blah..", followed by a handful of other posters, jumping in and taking their shot.

Is it any wonder we don't have any new posters? After a first impression like that? The only ones who stay are the ones who are just as rude as the people who were rude to them.

It doesn't cost anything to be tolerant, or have a little patience with someone less experienced.
