Who's joking?

But I will stop, I can understand your sentiments. But don't belittle the wars I and too many others like me fight on behalf of my country and the principles that you and I both live by. Whether you'll admit it or not you live with the same values I do and when somebody out there is denied their rights to even choose such values it pisses you off just as much as me.

listen , i think it's fucked that you're in the army, but let's not fool ourselves by saying that you're fighting for some greater principle ( or that you're fighting in general, unless you forgot to mention that you're posting from Iraq ). 99% of america's wars were far from noble, they're run by political interests and there's nothing noble about that.

the difference between croatia's war for independance was that we were attacked and we were DEFENDING ourselves. if there's one thing in this world that i'm extra sensitive about it's that war. and by throwing statements like "you only won it thanks to the UN" you're showing great disrespect to the thousands of croatian men and women who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom ( the presence of the UN only slowed down our efforts and in certain cases, they were even helping the other side...which is why your statement pissed me off so much ).

my heart goes out to those americans who have died in Iraq, and to those still fighting there. but there is nothing anyone can say that will make me believe that war was justified, or that their deaths were necessary to protect the freedom of millions of americans.

I've got to agree with that. I think I should add that (the armies which invaded Iraq) invading a country with an idea to 'liberate' everybody - but with no real, planned concept of how they'd actually achieve this - and ending up throwing an entire nation into violent anarchy was every bit as bad as going there with the sole intention of causing violent anarchy itself.

That's not an admonishment of the individual troops who have served there and maybe died there. It always takes courage to put yourself at such risk for any cause. At the same time, effort and courage put into an action does automatically make the action right. In this case it certainly doesn't.

Those individuals who want to serve their country can't help the fact that their country might be doing completely the wrong thing and I appreciate that. By going over and serving in the most professional, intelligent and humane way they can, they might even be able to improve the situation for everybody else. But, again, this still doesn't mean that the overall cause which they are supporting is a worthy one.

Didn't I just tell you not to say **** like that? Yup. Your country is smaller than West Virginia and is still pulling the land mines out of their a**es and boasts a military of about 1,550,000 and has to force people to join! You are, at any rate (military, politically, or financially) more than Iraq or Iran! What do we call those kinds of places? Oh yeah! Third world countries. Iran became a republic in '79, overthrowing a monarchy that had ruled for 40+ years. Ya'll ain't ****.

Are you talking about Britain now? You made those numbers up.

So are you trying to say that people are much poorer in Iraq than the US and Britain mainly because our countries are democracies? (yes we have a Queen, but she's just a tourist attraction)

East Timor is the poorest country in the world (in terms of income per capita). East Timor is a democratic republic. 3rd poorest is Malawi - democratic republic. The other 3 poorest countries which make up the current 5 poorest in the world are Gaza Strip, Somalia and Burundi (Rwanda). Those last 3 countries aren't poor primarily because they didn't know about democracy... they are the poorest because of FIGHTING and WAR.

Now, I do appreciate that by going over and forcibly usurping a cruel dictator some would hope that the lives of people in that other nation will improve. In general its a nice idea, but when you get down to it, exactly how do you think it will work? And if this question can't be answered then why the hell would you still be so keen to go over and **** around with the lives of people who you don't know?

Actually I meant Croatia.
DRME-"Now, I do appreciate that by going over and forcibly usurping a cruel dictator some would hope that the lives of people in that other nation will improve."

Fight fire with fire.

Those "cruel dictators" rule with force by intimidation, power in numbers, or knowledge or exploiting the target's weaknesses. So what's the best way to dispose of them? Blow that b*tch away!
