so now north korea has "apologized" for their nuclear test and has "promised" not to do it again (after previously informing their good buddy china otherwise). there has already been legislation on the books for several years stating that if north korea performed any nuclear tests then the US and Japan would "deal with them" (im paraphrasing), but no one seems/wants to acknowledge it b/c if they did, then we would have to go to war with north korea, thus stretching ourselves even thinner, considering we are still at war in iraq and afghanistan.

The Official Political Rant Thread

So this is the place to get out all of your pent up political aggression. No more spamming other threads with your (my or Raine's) crackpot political views. Well today is election day. It is a distinct possibility that Republicans could lose control of Congress. And if I hear the words "Speaker of the House Pelosi" I may go on a shooting spree.

When I give my political views, people usually tell me I'm young and ignorant, have to shut up, and get back to them when I'm older. I guess I don't know much about politics, so perhaps I'll pick up something here...

One thing I do know, I do not like Bush.

any particular reason, or do you just think he's ugly?

I just saw that George Galloway is speaking at Birmingham Uni for some anti-Islamophobia evening this week. If I'm well I think I might go along as the topic interests me (as more members of my close family are practising muslims than are practising christians and my girlfriend's family are originally from Bangladesh).

HOWEVER, I'm still not sure where I stand with regards to George Galloway. I used to think he was awesome (about 5 years ago), then I thought he was a twat (on big brother) and now I'm not sure whether he's a great politician, a rubbish politician, a loser, a tosser, an asshole, a fool or a genius*. Probably a combination of all of them.

*He's definitely a bully, but then many politicians deserve a good bullying. He also tend to be quite annoying, but at the same time I think I agree with the majority of political points he makes so I don't know whether I should like him, hate him or feel ambivalent.

What does anybody else think of him?

Alo 11-07-2006 10:09 AM

I actually don't even think he is that ugly. Not attractive either, but hey.

What I do not like about Bush is the way he seems to want to try to do what his father didn't do. I think the reason Bush Senior never tried to do anything about Saddam's regime, was because he knew it would get out of hand. No here we have Bush jr. who does it anyway and messes up stuff.

I also think he should fund/allow testing on embryo's, along with abortions. But probably the only reason he doesn't, is because the really religious people wouldn't be on his side anymore. From what I've heard, it's really the most important thing people look at when voting...

I think the guy is an attention whore.

Whatever good points about him have been totally lost during his media whoring / saddam ass kissing in my opinion.

I`m all for people having sympathy for the Iraqi people and being critical of the US & UK actions for what they do in Iraq..

I just don`t see how you can do this by being filmed cozying up to Saddam & kissing his ass.

im not all that familiar with him, but from what i hear he's somewhat of a socialist (which isnt necessarily a bad thing). but he's pro g@y and abortion, which is a no-no in my book. but he has been against Saddam Hussein all along, even when US and Britain supported him back in the day (which shows incredible forsesight)

Dunno where you got this , does this sound like someone who is against Saddam?

In 1994, Galloway faced some of his strongest criticism on his return from a Middle-Eastern visit during which he had met Saddam Hussein "to try and bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war." At the meeting, he reported the support given to Saddam by the people of the Gaza Strip and infamously ended his speech with the phrase "Sir: I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability.Additionally he said "hatta al-nasr, hatta al-nasr, hatta al-Quds" (Arabic for "until victory, until victory, until Jerusalem"). When later pressed to explain why he would make such a speech, he claimed he had been addressing the Iraqi people as a whole. Critics have asked why, if this was the case, he later in the speech said "I have been to Palestine and they are naming children after you," with the babies identified as 'Saddam'
