^ you can do it with blank cds, there is a burner that puts an image on to the top of a special printable blank cd

Yea I've seen some people's burners and they really suck. I was thinking of something that's sole purpose is to press cds or records. I'm sure there's some special paper and possibly some special printer as far as liner notes go.

I was in the lab and I actually started hurling abuse at the radio at that point. Thanksgiving is just an American version of the harvest festivals that we celebrate here. Its specific to America because it stems from when the pilgrims went over to America and had a difficult first few years (so they were extra thankful for each harvest). So why she thought we should have it when:

A: We're not American.
B: We already have harvest festival.

Is beyond me and I don't know why, on the country's second most popular radio station, nobody stopped her while a song was playing and told her she was making an ass of herself.

I've been wondering that too. I've been told that half the time if you use those printable ones, the printed CD doesn't end up working. That's pretty useless.

SD told me this,
Quote:
Labels use manufacturers. The euqipment needed to press proper CDs and vinyl is huge and incredibly expensive so all labels employ manufacturing companies to do it for them.

we use a company called Icon Omnimedia (www.builtbyicon.com) who also do all Robotic Empire releases and loads of others.

we tell them exactly what we want.. the package and the pressing size.. post them the master CD, upload high-definition artwork, sign the forms allowing them to do the pressing (something called an IPR form)... pay them, and the CDs arrive completely shrinkwrapped and everything a few weeks later.

after that we stick barcordes onto the back of the shrinkwrap and they're sent to our distributor, ready for the shops.

anyone can get CDs pressed... as long as they have the rights. There are also companies that do smaller pressings and some that will do pressings of CD-Rs (cheaper but unprofessional for a label).

vinyl works in the same way.. we're going to use SFH (www.fshuk.net) to do our vinyl releases.
I always thought labels pressed everything themselves, the major ones probably do. I was just curious because I've been seriously considering starting a label when I get out of high school and it's nice to know I don't have to invest in a presser.
