Urban myth , that song was written in the 17th/18th century , the black death happened about 300 years earlier,

****, in which case the programes they showed us in history class was full of lies.

"A-tissue a-tissue we all fall down" refers to the pneumonic plague, which was a strand of the bubonic plague spread through sneazing. Similar to consumption in that you generally died coughing up blood. Posies down to the fact they believed disease to be spread by foul smelling miasma, and thus overpowering the smell symbolised the expulsion of the disease carrying air and thus they walked around with all sorts of stinky **** on their personage.

Couldnt you also get the plague just by touching someone that had it.[my tumach twisted in knotts when i found out about this]

Barnard17 12-20-2006 04:49 PM

Erm ... no that's bull****. The plague was spread through blood - bacteria (bubonic), so no swallowing puss or blood, and no getting bitten by fleas. It was also spread through airborne spores (pneumonic) from coughing.
