Honestly, for all the information thats out there to know, I don't think knowing Welsh is still spoken is really up there. I read the Economist cracker, I'm more worldly than 75% of the country. Pipe down.

2. Can we get some welsh pronuciation. Give its age and englands history im going to pronounce it like I do german words. Maybe its nees a gaelic like resurgence.

That is true, and yet has nothing to do with knowing pretty basic things about the world.
My country may be smaller than your average american city, but I'm more cosmopolitan than someone living in Boston U.S.A. I'm growing tired of the excuse that the U.S. is just a very big country so its inhabitants don't really have the need to learn a foreign language or learn anything about the world outside their borders. Especially about the part of the world that should be of special interest to you, seeing as how the majority of your culture originates from Europe.
I'm not, I'm anti-stupid, it just so happens that those two terms are often interchangeable. What does that have to do with anything? Are you not from Boston Massachusetts, as in, the north east part of the U.S. which is supposedly more cosmopolitan and intelligent? What does that say about the rest of the country? How so? I know more about the U.S. than you do about any country in Europe, hell , probably the world.

If by cosmopolitan you mean you read the magazine then yes, you probably are. First of all I never said "the U.S. is large so we don't have to know about the rest fo the world", you probably just threw that in there because you assumed that I think that way. Check your own hang ups before you come in here and start trashing me.

1. As i've stated previous, knowing welsh was a spoken language is not really the world. Thats like saying i've gone to croatia and I've traveled the globe. And to go back to having hangups, what inspires such a brazen lashing out at a passing comment about one person not knowing that Welsh was a spoken language. Especially when its to be followed by a bunch of English citizens saying not many people outside of the U.K. know its spoken. Get off your high horse jackass.

2. You may know more about certain countries, but on the whole I'll bet you know what intrests you. And whats more irritating about this is that as far as worldly knowledge, or culture goes, you looked at the wide array that existed on the pallate and you decided what was correct and anyone who chose otherwise is somehow "uncultured." Tell me why I should know alla bout europe. I'm not disagreeing with you here, but why isn't Japanese or Indian culture just as good. To be fair, most culture came from specificlly Germany and France.

3. Tell me exactly why you're so smug and content to take your pent up U.S. hated out on me? I mean theres multiple times you've slammed boston in your petulant diatribe there. Have you ever been here? If so I'd like to know exactly what you did? A lay over at Logan Airport doesn't count. And on the off chance that you havn't been here, you've got a lot of gall attacking some where you've never been, and someone you don't know in the very thread you were condeming people in for committing the same act.

I don't think the issue is that most people don't know Welsh is a spoken language, the issue here is that you're an educated young man from Boston, not Bumsville Ohio. Yet you show the same apathy towards any issue outside the U.S. as you average compatriots. Because you're a white american, unless you count sushi restaurants and manga cartoons as a pivotal part of your culture, I'd say you need to know a few things about the continent that is responsible for the majority of your culture. Never been to America I'm affraid, but as far as I know, Boston is supposed to be one of the major educational and intellectual centres of the country. I'm not dissing Boston, I'm dissing you for not meeting it's ( supposed ) standards.

Croatia aside, which seems to be it's proper place, I think that Americans should be more World-conscience. It is ignorant, however, to think that the average American's lack of knowledge about the rest of the world makes us "stupid". Do you think we are incapable of learning about other countries? Is it beyond our mental capacity? Probably not.

It is my firm belief that if you are a European coming in here and bashing Americans because of a different focus of what you perceive to be our collective interest, then you are flaunting your own ignorance and poorly representing your own country.

However, I am willing to forgive Croatia if everyone else is willing to follow suit. Luckily, I am not under the assumption that everyone in Zagreb acts like Addiiddassss, just like everyone in Boston does not act like Big3, although a lot of them could benefit from doing so.

Don't worry too much about how the Europeans view the average American.
After all, there is a good reason for the 'average American' perspective of the the world. You have everything you need within your own borders, much like the British.
The only difference being, the British share a close proximity to other 'alien' cultures (as is the case for the other Euros...obviously), which despite our best efforts to ignore, predictably, continue to seep through into our collective consciousness.
The fact that a vast stretch of water known as the Atlantic separates our continents, is a major playing factor.
Your land is already a melting pot of world cultures, fashioned in a modern and new way, with the future in mind.

Well, like I said, this is just one of a series of displays of ignorace. You also have one of the more known examples of the same, with not knowing who Che Guevara was, but you're a friend, you're young, and frankly, I find you more intelligent than Big3 so you were forgiven. I was going after big3 because he's supposed to be the most intelligent american here. Which obviously isn't the case. I don't equate eloquence and a thesaurus-like dictionary with real intelligence. Really smart people have a neverending curiosity about all things, with a constant hunger for more knowledge. If I had said something like "Is welsh a real language?" on my croatian queer forum, I would have been crucified and forever labeled as retarded.

You may say that posing such a question is a sign of healthy curiosity and the willingness to learn new things, but to me, when you're 24 and have a college eduaction, such questions are not allowed, that is, if you still wanna retain the aura of "intelligence".

That's just bullshit, I'm always ready to concede to a point I find legitimate, and anyone who can is always more than welcome to prove me wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.

I don't know what the standard of living here would be since I've stated a thousand times now that each state is diffrent. In MA, all civil unions are legal, and we're passing legisaltion on universal healthcare, in South Dakota none of that is the case and abortion is illegal. The cost of living and taxes changes state to state, and how politics are run changes state to state. I don't know what the "american standard of living" is but we're all (you included) post-modern post industrial cities. Obesity and Diabeties are the main issues within the society, the biggest problem for most people in the Western First-world is what to watch on television that night. So if by standard of living you mean who gets more channels, well then there I'll say im being a stupid american again, I don't know who has better television programming.

^You know that Irish (Gaelic) is a language though? To put it simply, most places that were seperate countries in the past with individual cultures developed their own unique language. Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the South-West of England (Cornish) all have their own languages which were completely different to English although Scottish Gaelic and Cornish have died out.

I had always assumed so but not certain.
