Elliott*

Fugazi
More like, Fusexy.

Dead Kennedy's
They have a bunch of good songs, and a bunch of average ones.

The Fall
Every time I ask for an album recommendation by them I get blown off.

Iggy Pop
Never gotten into, lost all respect for him after doing music with sum 41.

John Lennon
Some of his stuff is terrible, others is great like Jealous Guy, Imagine etc

The Stooges
Never gotten into.

The Wipers
Never heard

Sonic Youth
See the fall

Tapes N' Tapes
Hated their fans so I assumed they sucked.

Talking Heads
lol@LETTING THE DAYS GO BY etc, psycho killer is good.

Velvet Underground
Never gotten into.

The Psychedelic Furs
Never heard

The Pixies
Doolittle<3
Nirvana
Some songs are good, alot are really crappy.

Mos Def
Hes got some good stuff, I havn't really gotten into them.

The Clash
Okay, strummer gets annoying after awhile

CYHSY
Pretty average but enjoyable.

Alice in Chains
Awful.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-03-2007 10:17 PM

Elliott Smith - Personally, I think he's boring to no end. Mellow though.

The Mars Volta - I dig all the guitar work and stuff, but sometimes it gets too Floyd-like for my tastes.

The Fall of Troy - Rawk hard.

Jethro Tull - Hard rock piccolo? Oh hell yes.

Alexisonfire - It's like someone took everything I dislike about generic "hardcore", shook it up in a can, and poured this band out.

Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism is in my top 15 albums, mos def.

Damien Rice - I haven't heard much from him, but what I've heard I like.

Protest The Hero - Ew. There are so many better mathcore/hardcore type bands out there.

Gym Class Heroes - Indie rappers, really unimpressive. Grab yourself some Roots.

Nick Drake - Haven't heard, but I just think of the Nickolodean star.

Pain of Salvation

Devin Townsend

Rush - This is me playing the bass line to YYZ on expert in Guitar Hero 2 : "Damn you Geddy Lee *shake fist*"
They are prog rock, so they are obnoxious at best.

TSOAF - Blah. Yeah.

Bright Eyes - Conor sounds like a goat, and I hate "I'm Wide Awake". I'm getting back into him though.[/QUOTE]

Laces Out Dan! 02-03-2007 10:18 PM

Gym Class Heroes own..and dont worry i've got the whole roots discog

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-03-2007 10:20 PM

never heard of the psychedelic furs? they=super good! or the wipers? a lot of people give them credit for inventing grunge(in a good way). Greg Sage is definitly worth checking out.
For the Fall just look at (i think urbans) thread on them for reccomendations.

CTTS is the only good band on this list, the rest are terrible. Except old UnderOATH

My diagnosis: check out more real emo.

Bands to check out:

Hot Cross
pg. 99
City Of Caterpillar
Welcome The Plague Year
Neil Perry
Transistor Transistor
Ampere
and basically all the bands swim talks about in the emo/hardcore forum.

Loser 02-03-2007 10:49 PM

I'll do that

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-03-2007 10:52 PM

Circle Takes The Square - Yes, Drew is my hero, and I know his cousin. The rest of the band ****ing rules too.

A Thorn For Every Heart - Lolz.

Chiodos - They bring the meaning of sub-par to a whole new level.

Saosin - More like Saoawful. This band is a plague on Anthony Green's career.

Underoath - If you don't count TOCS, I dig them.

Haste The Day - Haven't really listened, I just remember thinking they were okay.

Saertia - Saetia are an average screamo band, I don't know who Saertia are.

Anti-Flag - I like these political punk rockers. Underground Network is a good album.

Silverstein - El oh el.

Alesana - Haven't heard them, but I can imagine them being awful.

From First To Last - The only time Sonny can sing without going horribly off-key or scratching his voice is when a machine is processing his vocals for him.

Catch 22 - Are they a ska band?

Endwell

Escape The Fate

Emanuel

Hawthorne Heights - Someone should punch you in the face.

August Burns Red - The screaming kind of sucks sometimes, but they are one of the generic metalcore bands I actually like.

Holy Cross - I don't know if you mean Hot Cross, who rule. Otherwise I've never heard of them.

So They Say

Nirvana - I wish Kurt Cobain had died before he released a bunch of crappy albums.

Aiden - Ahah. Sucky

30 Seconds To Mars - I watched their music video with all the Japanese stuff, and it was one of the most boring, repetative, average things I've ever laid witness to.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Worst band name ever, paired with crappy music. Lose/lose.

Cute Is What We Aim For

Drop Dead Goregeous - I'll quote my post from the other thread:
Quote:

They would be fun to blast from a vehicle with a loud system in the summer when everyone has their windows down, though.

But the screaming/singing sucks. And so do the breakdowns.

And the rapping is extremely lame on En Vogue.

*In Vogue

Yeah, my brother put it on my computer.

It has zero plays, except for now.

Since I was forced to listen to it.

Thanks to this thread.

gottaSCREM should learn how to spell.

WTF is SCREMING?

Exactly.

Actually I take back my earlier comment. I'd never listen to these guys in my car.

I think that's all I have to say.

sleepy jack 02-03-2007 10:56 PM

Alesana make Hawthorne Heights look talented no lie, the worst scenester band i've ever heard.

Loser 02-03-2007 10:56 PM

In that quote who is gotta screm? and i'll take all suggestions and listen to all of the bands with out a doubt. Thanks Ethan and A Perfect Sonnet.

AFI (old) - More like "I'm Davey Havok and my muscles are too big for the pitch of my voice."FI. Too be honest, I've never really liked them that much.

The Acacia Strain

All That Remains - My brother likes them. I think they are okay.

And The Hero Fails

As Blood Runs Black

August Burns Red - A generic metalcore band I like. I like their hooks.

Authority Zero - Ew, I really hate white guys trying to do reggae type stuff.

Before Today

Ben Harper

Between The Buried And Me - Selkies, rawr. I dig.

Bleeding Through - Organ synths don't belong in metalcore. They just sound lame and out of place.

Blues Traveler - They are okay.

Brand New - I love the new album. Most of the old stuff is good too.

Bullet For My Valentine - ****ty ****.

Cake - Fun, but only average in my book.

Circle Takes The Square - As a follow up, I actually went on a date with Drew's cousin. This band is the ****.

Coheed And Cambria (old) - I like Second Stage Turbine Blade, the stuff that proceded it was too uh... ****ty.

Comeback Kid - I FOUND MY WAY OUT! *SLIDE JUNUNUNUNUN* Group chants, and a good hardcore band.

Converge - Br00tul. Awesome stuff.

Danzig - I don't care how much VH1 hates his albums, his being in the Misfits is enough for me to love him.

Darkest Hour - I have trouble getting into them, but they are good musicians.

Dave Matthews Band - I wish you could hear my vocal impersonation. They are bad.

Dead To Fall

Dimmu Borgir

Dragonforce - I don't care how fast you play scales, it doesn't make shredding any cooler.

End Of Eden

Every New Day

Every Time I Die - <3

The Fall Of Troy - Fantastic

Finch - This band really failed to make an impact on me. It was boring.

Folly

Haste The Day

Jack Johnson - Look at me, I palm mute bar chords and slap my guitar strings. Did I mention I'm a surfer? Whoa totally cool. Not.

Killswitch Engage - This is one of those bands that just shouldn't even try.

Led Zeppelin - I love all of their catchy, memorable riffs. They are a great band.

A Life Once Lost

Lower Definition

The Mars Volta - I really like a lot about this band, but they get too Floyd-like for me sometimes.

Metallica - Haha, they aren't very good.

Norma Jean - I like Cory better than the old guy. They are br00tal, in a mainstream sort of way. I dig.

The Offspring (old) - Eh, it's fun to listen to at parties, but I don't really think they are all that great.

A Perfect Circle - Better than Tool, Maynard isn't very good though.

Pink Floyd - I really hate this band, a lot.

Reel Big Fish - Ska/rock, uh.... it's listenable.

Saosin (Anthony Green era) - A bane on Anthony's career, the band sucks.

Shadows Fall - These guys got me into screaming music, props to them for their musical ability. I really don't know why they don't get a better vocalist though.

Social Distortion - If you could send me some albums, I really miss their CDs.

The Sounds Of Animals Fighting - Bleh. Yeah. Same as before.

Symphony X - Prog-rock, with an orchestra. Big whoop.

Thrice (old) - I don't see anything wrong with new Thrice, but if you are talking about Identity Crisis old, then they were kind of sloppy and underdeveloped. Otherwise, I love everything this band has done.

Thursday - I dig Full Collapse

Tool - Maynard is totally overrated.

Trigger My Nightmare

Trophy Scars - Alphabets.Alphabets is dumb, and Jerry is a jerk. I dig everything else about the band though.

Underminded

Underoath (old and new) - TOCS sucks.

Unearth - Ew, political metalcore/boring music.

Unwritten Law (old) - The acoustic album, Elva was it? was pretty good.

sleepy jack 02-03-2007 11:56 PM

Jerry hates me and wants to punch me in the face, true story.

Circle Takes The Square - It was only one date with Drew's cousin, but we drank beer in someone's backyard and it was sketchy. We never talked again.

Pg. 99 - Suhweet.

Brand New - Awezum.

Hot Cross - Loads better than Saetia. Orly?Yarly.

1905 - As far as emo goes, I don't like them very much a'tall.

I Would Set Myself On Fire For You - Guud.

Say Anything - ...Is a Real Boy is one of the 5 cds that gets played when I'm in my car. They are fantastic.

mewithoutyou - So I recommended La Dispute to this kid who had a mewithoutyou shirt on, and he was like "DUDE THEY SUCK" and I had to tell him they were practically the same thing. I like both. Do you have any La Dispute albums by chance?

Parkway Drive

Minor Threat - Yeah, it was hardcore punk.

Fugazi - I think they are okay, but I haven't really gotten into them.

Jethro Tull - Hard rockin' piccolo. Nuff said.

The Kodan Armada - These guys are pure talent.

La Quiete - Greyskull = one of my favorite songs.

Rites of Spring - See Embrace.

Embrace - I feel as though I can group both of these bands together, and I have to credit them for basically creating emotional hardcore, but other than that, they are just okay in my book. I like Embrace better.

The Evens

Bad Brains

Light The Fuse And Run - He talks too much.

Louise Cyphre - Rool.

Belle Epoque - French emo is fantastic and this is no exception.

Bane - hXc, in the good way.

Shikari (NOT Enter Shikari)

Hiretsukan

Heroin - I like them, though I haven't listened in a long while.

Angel Hair - 1+1 = 2

Gospel - From what everyone else says, they are good. I haven't listened yet.

sleepy jack 02-04-2007 12:47 AM

The Evens - My least favorite Ian Mackaye band, still good though.

Bad Brains - A couple good songs, i've always prefered other 80s hardcore bands.

acratertocoffin 02-04-2007 12:48 AM

Actually I don't have any La Dispute but now I'm very interested. And I do hope you continue with the CTTS story for every entry.
It's Ian McKaye I can't say no.

They should make a thread in which I rate how well you two rate other peoples music.

It would function as some sort of checked balance. I mean, these threads always meet the same fate...:

"****, i've run out of passionless, prefunctory reasonless slander to mock bands that I otherwise have no feelings about"

If you're going to do this, please do it correctly.

sleepy jack 02-04-2007 01:06 AM

Were giving our opinions on bands, if people don't want our opinions then they simply don't post. Its not that difficult.

Aside from that ben and I never run out of reasonless slander.

Not everyone in this forum shares any common interest in most of the music i listen to, it's either passed off as generic pub rock or teenage metal and dismissed....so i'm not expecting much, personally i like what i listen to. t'is the ****. :)
