One of my best friends is a female. She dated two of my friends, so I don't think it would happen, but she and I are pretty close.

I consider good friends to a friend who you are comfortable enough with that's perfectly natural to take a nap in their bed at any time and/or they are comfortable enough to walk into your house a 2 in the morning wake you up and demand pancakes.

Eh, I've got a few really good friends who are girls and I've never even considered wanting to hook up with any of them. But we've been friends since we were little so they're almost like my sisters, except not annoying.

I've got plenty of chick friends, but before I had my girlfriend, half of them thought I was trying to pick them up! Now, they crash in my bed or whatever, the girlfriend doesn't care. hell, we had her ex of 5 years over here for tea last night and we all got wasted and passed out.
