Zune vs. iPod

Microsoft Zune vs. Apple iPod. Who has what, and which one do you like better? Aaaaaaaand....discuss.

Skid Mark 02-04-2008 04:13 PM

I wouldn't know what a Zune is like cause I only have an iPod... but since the iPod sucks 10 varieties of ass I'm voting Zune

JoeyD 02-04-2008 08:03 PM

As exclusive as the iPod may be, I enjoy how easy it is to use, and the quality of all their products.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 02-04-2008 08:35 PM

Ipod>>>>...For some reason I just love them.

Lizzie 02-04-2008 11:18 PM

I have never heard of a Zune in my life and I don't know what they do.....so clearly they can't be that good

SATCHMO 02-04-2008 11:28 PM

The zune would have much more of an appeal if everyone owned one. meaning, the only cool thing about them VS. the ipod is that it allows you to send songs wirelessly to other Zune owners.

Predator 02-05-2008 12:07 AM

When I still worked in a shop, I used a Phillips 4 gb sports model that strapped to my arm and I could control through coveralls. It was pretty good and did all that I wanted. When I moved to field service, I couldn't use headphones anymore so I started using my phone with a single ear bluetooth headset. I gotta say that I like this way a lot better. I keep 5 1gb cards on hand, the sound is great and my phone does more than either of those could. Plus nobody knows that I am listening to music.

oh yes that's an excellent theory to use in all aspects of life....I haven't heard of something therefore it must be shiet.....riiiiight.

maybe because you aren't up on the new tech gadgets.....

I have a 80gb Zune....Ipod sucks so much monkey balls and everyone keeps buying into the fade/trend....

I love my Zune.....I'm finding more and more people with it....like I was on my bus heading to the main campus and I found another user...pretty sure she's a female so I sent her a couple of songs and she sent me a few. Whenever I'm at the gym I can find more zune users there also wirelessly.

Zune does have an ad campaign that just kicked off recently....I've been seeing the commercials around quite often so, Lizzie you don't watch that silly invention called a television either.

[MERIT] 02-05-2008 08:24 AM

Installing my Zune software was a tota b*tch. It didn't come with any software, so i had to DL it off their website.

-DL 40Mb of software
-installing zune software...."must update your version of windows"
-DL windows updates...."page cannot be displayed properly"
-disable ALL firewalls, etc
-DL windows updates
-install windows updates
-reboot
-installing zune software...."must update zune version/drivers"
-wait 20 minutes for the "update" to the software
-finally got it installed....oh wait
-"videos/graphics will not display properly in this program, try updating your video drivers (i just ran a f'n full system update!)
-DL video drivers update
-install update
-reboot
SUCCESS!

total time: about 3 hrs

I love my 80GB Zune, but this was f*cking rediculous/

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-05-2008 12:00 PM

My experience with my I-pod

1. Opened up I-tunes which i'd spent 3 months uploading music to.
2. Connected new I-Pod.
3. ****ed off for an hour
4. Came back and found all 50 gig of my music installed on it.

sleepy jack 02-05-2008 01:00 PM

I've only had one problem with my ipod which was when it died without turning back on (I got it for free from a friend though so I wasn't that upset since it was old) I mailed it in and got a new one back which has worked fine ever since. I don't understand the hate.

Okay, don't get all mad over what I said, I wasn't being particualry seriuos, for in case you didn't notice, I did Not vote for either...I was simply commenting that I did not not know what it was, and so I looked it up....and now I will vote, for the ipod, thank you very much, for i rather love my ipod.

SATCHMO 02-05-2008 03:23 PM

Can you use Zune with a Mac and itunes?

Gates_of_Iscariot 02-05-2008 03:42 PM

itunes converts yo ****, and is way to bulky, id get a zune if they made a 160 gb model

tkpb938 02-05-2008 03:42 PM

They both play music? I'm gonna go with the Zune just to be a rebel.

Everyone at my school who wants to look cool goes out and buys like the 2million gig ipod with intentions of only putting on like maybe 50 crappy songs. Its so annoying...

Nosmada 02-05-2008 04:11 PM

i vote ipod, just because of the total simplicity of it all i am on my 3rd ipod now and everytime i get a new on i change nothing just plug in a change a couple things and go, i have heard many stories such as oojay with people having problems with their zune's at first.

well good for you...

ghostonstage135 02-06-2008 11:30 AM

I bought a Zune over a year ago and I have had 1 problem with it. That was when I plugged mine into my girlfriend's comp and it updated my software on my zune so I had to DL the new software at home. I am not a fan of the new software........... it is too flashy and doesn't lay everything out simply enough. I know not a lot of people listen to the radio here but... Zune also has a radio on it. That is helpful if you goto a gym and you can use a radio to pick up the volume to the TVs.

I love my Zune. :)

^Pompous? Well, that is one I have not heard before, for I didn't know that saying that I didn't know what something was made me pompous, but allright, if that's what you want to think, that's fine, I suppose I'm to arrogant to care.

i love you too

talis_man 02-07-2008 11:48 PM

Ipod ftw!
my 30gb video ipod has a few quibs now and than but it rocks out hard. Plus itunes is the most user friendly music software out there.

Insisting that an iPod is only in sync with one collection is possibly the most user unfriendly feature ever. There probably is a way around this but I've never looked because I don't have an iPod. I do encounter the problem when someone wants me to load up their mp3 player with music.

sleepy jack 02-08-2008 02:23 AM

See I don't have a problem with that because mp4s are much smaller than .wmas/mp3s (meaning you can put more music on) and an mp3 that is the same size as an mp4 doesn't have as high a bitrate either. So as long as you rip all your stuff as mp4s which I tend to do, you can put more music on your ipod with higher sound quality.

TheCaster 02-08-2008 07:29 AM

zunes are so much cooler but i have an ipod :/

the only reason ipods are bigger is that they're the current 'fad'

draxus 02-08-2008 09:05 AM

I have an ipod. I think that the zune is more customizable when it comes to screens and all those add ons. But the ipod is really easy to use and rarely has problems with it, Zune's tend to freeze and become distorted on the screen. Im going ipod, also because the new touch features wi fi. I like that :)

[MERIT] 02-09-2008 07:10 PM

So I took my 80GB Zune back, it was too much of a hassle. 3 hours to install the software/updates was rediculous.

And the Zune f'd up all of my tags. I had all of my music ripped and neatly tagged, but the Zune basically disregarded all of my tags and went with w/e information about the album/song/artist that it automatically downloaded off the net. And it had no tag editor to correct the info.

Should I go buy the 80GB iPod, or should I go with an Archos? Anyone with any experience with an Archos?

yeah.......only reason id get one,but really......both the zune and ipod arent all that great i mean im pretty peaved cause i had all my music on itunes (like 40GB worth) and my computer died so i had to get a new one and hooked up my old hard drive up to my new pc and bam all of my music was gone so i wouldnt get an ipod for that reason....

white_powered_zombie 02-14-2008 11:25 PM

^what?
You wouldn't get an Ipod because your computer crashed and lost all its music.............(cont.)

Ipod has my vote, my 30 gig is well over a year 'n' half and only froze for the first time about a month ago, just had to reset it and works perfectly again.

SATCHMO 02-14-2008 11:29 PM

With much luck, begging, and selling of my soul, I will get my ipod Touch tomorrow and I will be so, so happy.

go with the Archos.....it's definitely top of the line.....bit more costly but I've only heard good things about it

why in god's name would you waste your money on an iPod touch? it's flash memory, so youre going to pay out the ass, and get 1/10 the capacity of a similarly price iPod classic. more money for less capacity, its a lose-lose situation.

ProggyMan 02-17-2008 12:21 PM

Dude, it has internet, calendar, email, YouTube(Basically being able to carry every music video ever made around with you)...

SATCHMO 02-18-2008 10:41 PM

Actually oojay's comment has made me reconsider my choice, but since I'm not all that computer savvy I really don't understand why flash memory is a bad thing (i don't know what it is, for that matter), Capacity really isn't an issue for me; I don't feel the need to tote around my entire music collection, but reliability is a concern. If anyone has some useful info, help me out.
