1. As we are now into September, how was the summer for you? (Answer winter if it was winter where you are.)

I worked most of it away. Weather-wise it was pretty even keel. Not too bad there.

2. When was the last time you were genuinely scared?

Great Recession.

3. What was the last book you read? Was it any good?

Digital Gold: Bitcoin and the Inside Story of the Misfits and Millionaires Trying to Reinvent Money (2015) by Nathaniel Popper. I wanted to understand this crypto crap because it was in the headlines constantly, so much so that it was getting annoying. Knew zero about it and didn't really care to use it, either, but if cryptos were going to become a permanent force, it's something I wanted to understand. I wanted to know the history of it more than anything/who the major players were, similar to how you would read a book about a war you were never in or about a city you've never visited. This was Popper's first book. I am a fan of dry reading or what you would call nonfiction, so I wasn't expecting a griping story. Just wish it had a little more life to it. The book is fairly dull, matter-of-fact and the characters' personalities could've been fleshed out and their storylines tied together better.

4. What was the last 5* album you discovered?

I'm bad at listening to albums so it's hard to say. I'm just going to pimp one of my favorite albums, Above by Mad Season.

5. What one thing do you do better than anyone else you know?

Point-and-shoot photography maybe.

6. What would be the hardest thing for you to give up?

Ice cream.

1. As we are now into September, how was the summer for you? (Answer winter if it was winter where you are.)

Hot, dry and kind of a blurry memory. I was alone for most of July since everyone was out travelling, so I just sort of passed time on my own and the days blend together in my memory.

Started work again in August, but still enjoyed that month way more. July was kind of weird for me.

2. When was the last time you were genuinely scared?

When my dad had a blood clot in his leg. Turned out to not be anything serious.

3. What was the last book you read? Was it any good?

"Against Interpretation" by Susan Sontag. Started it long ago, but finished it a couple days ago because I usually cycle between several essay collections at once. It was great. Lots of interesting ideas and especially some very rewarding essays on old films.

Sometimes, she gets a bit obtuse or impenetrable, but most of her essays are very worth reading. I've started on another collection of hers already ("Styles of Radical Will").

4. What was the last 5* album you discovered?

Neko Case - Furnace Room Lullaby was one of my recently acquired albums that I finally got around to going in depth with yesterday. There isn't a facet of it that isn't superbly put together. But I've found quite many amazing albums over the last few months, even very recently.

5. What one thing do you do better than anyone else you know?

Play fighting games, I guess? Some other things too, but no skills actually worth having.

6. What would be the hardest thing for you to give up?

I'm an internet addict.

When you live in Florida in the U.S. it's always Summer.

2. When was the last time you were genuinely scared?

I have spontaneous anxiety issues. Probably when I thought I'd lost my bank account card on the other side of the country when I was on tour because my bank doesn't have branches out that far. Thankfully, it was just in the pocket of the pants I had on the night before.

3. What was the last book you read? Was it any good?

House Of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. And yes, it's amazing.

4. What was the last 5* album you discovered?

5. What one thing do you do better than anyone else you know?

Manifest the depths of insanity.

6. What would be the hardest thing for you to give up?

Playing bass.

1. As we are now into September, how was the summer for you? (Answer winter if it was winter where you are.)

Way too hot and humid. I don’t tolerate heat well – makes me feel ill and a little depressed sometimes.

2. When was the last time you were genuinely scared?

I have a friend who has always been a very stable person – who about a month ago started seeing visions of people in her apartment. She calls me during or after seeing “the people” (as she refers to them) and describes their activities. She may have Parkinson’s but hasn’t been properly diagnosed yet – she’s going through cognitive/psychiatric testing. So I suppose the last time I was genuinely scared was yesterday when we last spoke about these visions.

3. What was the last book you read? Was it any good?

Literally the last book? I read a children’s book titled “Feather” in a Barnes & Noble café – loved the illustrations and the fable of a feather seeking the bird it belongs to.

4. What was the last 5* album you discovered?

Nothing I discovered myself.

5. What one thing do you do better than anyone else you know?

Good at ice skating (although it’s been a while) and anything percussive/rhythmic.

6. What would be the hardest thing for you to give up?

YouTube

Not too bad, except for getting bit on the jugular by a spider. That sucked.

2. When was the last time you were genuinely scared?

There were a few times while buying drugs where things went pretty bad, but that was a long time ago. I still look back on those days and get a little uneasy.

3. What was the last book you read? Was it any good?

Hmmm, it's been a while. I think maybe King's 'Desperation'.

4. What was the last 5* album you discovered?

Clutch - Blast Tyrant (after years of just listening to parts of it, I gave the full album a listen and was a little bit disappointed that I hadn't done that sooner).

5. What one thing do you do better than anyone else you know?

Wipe my butt.

6. What would be the hardest thing for you to give up?

Breathing.

They put on a hell of a live show, too. Second time I saw them, stupid, drunk 20-year old me was in the front row screaming "Regulatorrrrr!!!" into Neil Fallon's face.

Clutch is such a ****ing fun live band. One of the best times I've had with my pants off.
