I'm polite with my throat-clearing. I only do it outdoors or away from people because it's not flattering. It's not like a desperate need thing, just an irritation.

In my library's "quiet zone" (whispered conversation only etc.), the ventilation system makes steady squeaking noises every four seconds. Good luck studying there.
