The Germans can't pull it off, but the Dutch are the biggest culprits.
They all sound like retarded American Sean Connery's.

Europeans should take a leaf out the the Scandinavian book.
Better still (and it kills me to say it) be like the French and speak English with your own accent.

Is it cos you watch too much Merican TV?

Yeah, that's how I learned to speak the language in the first place.

You can still tell I'm not really an American, but I think this is as good as it gets for someone who's never actually lived in an English speaking country.

I should practice speaking with an English accent...It sounds great in my head but when I try to speak out loud it comes off totally retarded.

This wasn't aimed at you in particular.
I happen to think the eastern block countries pull off a passable American accent, especially the Russians for some reason.

Just waiting in line at the hotel all inclusive bar, with an ignorant square headed German stood in front of me ordering a beer, pretending to be American, was enough to give me the uncontrollable urge to punch the bastard in the back of the head.
