It's an Asian thing. I lived in Singapore for a long time, so it stuck.

Ah, interesting. I had never heard that before.

I'm surprised you're not tired of it yet. I had some friends come in from London one time, and everywhere we went people were saying "Oh my gawd! I love your accent!" They finally got fed up of it and the wife turns to me and says "Haven't any of you fucking Texans heard an English person speak before?" Good times....

Oh yeah, it can get awfully annoying sometimes... it usually depends on who is saying it and if they have anything of interest to their observation... like "I was there once and really enjoyed your wine, beer, etc"... the big mouthy "oh my gawd' types make me want to crawl into my shell and blend in because it's just embarassing having them around you...

This is what I keep trying to explain to people.

To a foreigner, its alright to fixate on our accent and ask us to say countless words and phrases because it's a genuine interest and also because 99% of the time it's considered attractive, something that gets us alot of attention abroad.

To us, it's only fun to an extent. At first it might be kind of cool but after a while it just feels as though we're there solely for others people entertainment as the novelty just doesn't seem to wear off and we're still being asked to say this and say that.

Sounds EXACTLY like something my mother would say. It's just as embarrassing for me to put up with.

If it makes you feel any better, I usually poke fun at the Aussies I meet, especially the ones that call American football "gridiron" and pretend that we've got nine months of summer like they do back home.
