Completely disagree.

What is a meat eating society? Pretty much every society on the planet relies on animal protein in one for or another.

A society predominantly of meat eaters? You don't think being raised from birth in a society full of burger eaters has shaped your attitudes on eating meat and the value of animal life?

Well, growing up around burgers definitely shaped my attitude about liking burgers. I can grock the need for hunting to feed a family and large scale livestock farming for mass consumption but that doesn't make me less of a big softy when it comes to animals.

But "big softy" includes being okay with animals dying for food when you could just have a salad, yes? And unless you're a sociopath that's probably because that's normalized to you.

The most recent USA poll in 2018 found that about 5% of Americans identified as vegetarian. I'd wager a very large number of the 95% of meat eaters also love animals.

That a couple hundred million sociopaths just here in Merica!

Dude, you want black and white.
EAT MEAT = LACKS EMPATHY TOWARDS ANIMALS

Not the way it is in the real world for many - deal with it instead of trying to dump it in my lap.

This is pure bull. You think every vet is a veggie? You think every animal lover recoils from meat? You're trying to make the issue black and white and it's not. It's completely disinegenuous to say that if you eat meat you value animal life less. There could be a zillion veggies and animals would still get hunted and killed for meat, because no way will the world ever be totally veg, and once there are people who want to eat meat there's an industry to supply that demand. Being a veggie doesn't save animals; it just means you don't have to feel you have to take responsibility for their deaths.

And there are shades of nuance. I eat chicken but I'd never eat dog or cat. I can't say I love chickens or that I don't feel momentary sadness if I look at a chicken burger or sausage and remember it was once an animal, but I'll be damned if I'm going veg. I hate veg. That does not make me less of a valuer of animal life than a veggie. A lot of them also eschew meat for health reasons, not moral ones.

Yes.

You have a very uncomfortable point.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Art Is Dead. Buy My ****.
