Yes Texas is part of the South why else would ever redneck have a bumper sticker on their truck that says 'the south will rise again' next to their 'dont mess with texas' sticker. If you talk about the Civil War Texas was a Confederate state and is regarded as a southern state.

In reply to the original post, for the most part I quite like accents from the southern states of the US and don't like the ones from the north. The New York accent is probably my least favourite.

Forget you all. I'm chalking this up to us being the nexus of the universe and you're all envious.

Virginia is the south for all historical purposes. Today is much less southern do to its proxemity with D.C. and the influx of northern influence. Further, its about to go blue in 2008 making it loose more of its credibility. To that end, Pennsylvania is more culturally Southern on its western front that Virginia is outside of its sloping point in Tennesee.

And texas isn't southern in the sense of culture, more geography. If you're concluding they are southern it seems to imply you either don't know Texas culture, or you don't know southern culture.

Whats that got to do with anything? Its fairly evident you've rejected the culture. But theres no substance in this argument. You think that the texas accent is southern, and the southern accent is born out of redneck inbreeding. Sounds like is superficial. To suggest everyone with that accent is ignorant is in fact, ignorant.

I had a friend move to Boston from Boise thinking he'd be protected from stupid people in a safe liberal bubble. Stupid people breed more, they outnumber us and they are in every accent imaginable.

I'm more curious to ask why you'd agree with the stereotypical assessment of southern accents. What illicit behavior is associated with other accents?
