If you're uploading the picture from your computer, make sure it meets the size requirements. If linking the picture from another site, make sure the site's linking policies aren't preventing the picture from being viewed externally.

Also, when you update your signature the changes should immediately be reflected in posts you make after the change, but it doesn't hurt to give it a few minutes before testing it again.
