I just today met people who can and will enthusiastically special order just about anything I could imagine (as long as it's licensed to be sold in the states) for me. I had the fortune of being at a car wash right beside a liquor store I've not been to in years today. Since I planned on buying beer, I figured I should probably just stop at this liquor store, which no one ever even talks about - I just used it when I made people buy me tequila when I was underage, and bought Magic Hat there once when I turned 21. Their variety was whack, so I hadn't really been back.

Dude who owns it finally stopped letting his wife hire people, they got divorced, and his love and respect for quality alcohol resulted in a knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, the best variety I've seen in the tristate area, and a very convenient location.

They're really doing something right there. I'm letting everyone I know who's enthusiastic about good beer and good liquor know about their change in heart and superb quality.

I'm not really that familiar with British beers outside of the big ones, but I do really like Samuel Smith's, both their organic lager and their stout. A little pricey, like $14 for a 4 pack, but it's good beer.

Interesting. A canadian belgian tripel. I've seen it at the local liquor stores but never stepped up. Probably go nice with a great indica and a nice whitefish.

It's got a weird after taste that I've never been able to get use to, but it is like 9.5% so I enjoy it regardless.

It's pretty cool. The brewery makes other strong beers, often with similar over the top names, and I'd recommend them in general and their "Maudite" in particular. On the note of microbrewery naming conventions, a stoner friend of mine once commented that he was only getting Optimo Peach blunt wraps as he felt ridiculous asking for all the various fruity flavors. I get the same feeling with microbrewery beers too often - yeah, pig's ass porter from Harvest Moon is good, but, ****, it makes me feel like a college girl ordering a mixed shot.

Murphy's is good, and I'd second the recommendation for Samuel Smith - their Oatmeal Stout is wonderful. However, stay away from anything the British call "bitters", which is what they call beer that is lightly carbonated, light on the alcohol, and has a uniquely bad taste (watered down guinness?). Besides, with all the wonderful American microbrewery's out there, you can have your cups full exploring those.

That is very easy to get pissed off. Can go through them in no time.

Speaking of British beers, I'm going to a beer festival this evening.

Practically salivating at the thought.
