I think it would speed up the process with some people, sure. But I think human sexuality is an incredibly complicated thing and even with absolute social acceptance (which sounds like science fiction really) it could take some people many years to figure out what they want.

Well for me, it was more like I always liked girls in some way, and I thought it was wrong. As I got older, I had more chances to experiment, and I went from thinking it was wrong, to figuring out it was just everyone else that was closed-minded.
I was basically sheltered for most of my life, so no, it wasn't because my parents are gay or anything like that.
I was always attracted to girls, and then I fell in love with one, and realized that it isn't much different from being with a guy you have feelings for.
I don't consider myself lesbian or homosexual or straight or anything.
When people ask, I tell them I love who I love.

Some people, like me, think it happens from when someone's born.
Others think it just comes from experiences.
In my opinion, there's someone out there for you. It may be of the opposite gender, it may be of the same one, maybe you'll never meet them and you'll settle for whatever you have.

Your parents are gay?

Arya Stark 01-30-2010 07:11 PM

No, they're straight.
And pretty homophobic.
I was trying to say that it wasn't my enviroment that caused these feelings.

Ahh I see. I love that argument, "let's not give gays kids, they're sure to make them gay too!" So how do you account for the 99% of homosexuals that come from heterosexual marriages? Silly people...

I have to show you this video.
It's talking about why homosexuality is wrong.
But he doesn't believe it, he's being sarcastic.
And in one, he goes, "All gay parents raise gay children..... The same way all straight parents raise straight children."
It was amazing! I'm going to look it up now. [=

Edit:

My partner said that she would be gutted if my eldest son announced that he was *** and I felt quite sad about this. Even though he's my son, I would support him 100% no matter his orientation.

Arya Stark 01-30-2010 07:51 PM

=[[[[ That makes me sad because I wish my parents were like that.
When I thought I was bisexual, I told my parents and they wouldn't talk to me
And then they told me I was just going through too many emotions and that I didn't know what I wanted.

I love me some gays. my mama was big into musical theater (she had her own production company and ****) when I was younger, and all her gay friends were very kind to me, I grew up not realising people actually thinking it's wrong. I don't get it, really. Gender is a fascinating thing, I am sincerely fascinated by transsexuals, I've always felt very feminine, even though I wasn't particularly programmed to be, so someone feeling they're the wrong gender is so interesting.

My best friend's boyfriend is stupidly homophobic, I recall her telling me about how he said homosexuals were on the same level as those with mental retardation, that they should be eliminated because they can't function in society? I mean, what? The funny thing is though, his dad is now a woman

Good stuff

don't tell boys that though, they'll try and get you into threesomes.
