Astute observation. My point was that it's very easy for underaged individuals to access adult content, if that's what they desire. Deleting threads such as this, that help retain regular members and encourage discussion, does little if nothing to shelter these individuals.

you misunderstand. we don't promote pornographic material, regardless of how much underage people try to access it. if you don't promote that sort of thing, then underage people are not viewing it if they lie about their age.

I see I need to elaborate further. You are a bureaucrat-type, so let's look at this from a cost-benefit point of view. At what point does policing a forum so much hurt the community more than it attracts new members? As per another post by Jack Pat;

But this is a music forum, and there are many albums (and books... for subjects that are unrelated to music) that contain explicit content.

What are we supposed to do if we want to discuss authors like William Burroughs or musicians like The Velvet Underground or Naked City?

Can you see how this could become problematic when regarding the content on this site?
I can't imagine deleting this thread, which does not contain any pornographic images or videos yet has reached 500+ pages of discussion, is going to do anything but be a detriment to the community.

it seems logical to me. what kind of atmosphere are we fostering here? one friendly to all ages, or one friendly to sex maniacs? a single thread should not be turning potential members off from talking about music. if you are so hell-bent on talking about sex, then i am sure there are plenty forums which you can do that.

as far as pornography is concerned, it's not so much this thread as it is a couple others, but this sort of mentality is what we're against.

You will see that people who join Musicbanter to talk solely about music don't last very long. There's only so much to be said before you grow bored and leave. It is threads like this that increase the longevity of membership.

from what i have seen here, that may be true. but if sex-talk members want to take up residence elsewhere, that is up to them. this is a music forum. it is the demographic we wish to appeal to on this particular site. we have no wish to begin our site ad campaign tailoring to sex addicts and fetish people.

How about all current members (who have been posting about this kind of stuff for years) take up residence somewhere else, and then we can glimpse as your precious traffic ranking plummets.

Believe me, if anything is going to put people off from talking about music, its not going to be this thread as much as its going to be ill informed posts by total newbies about how pearl jam are great and country music is universally terrible, written with the style and grace of an early pubescent and only half as much broadmindedness. :D

Well said GB.

I still find it laughable that someone with an avatar emulating one of the most profane TV shows of all time is trumpeting the horn of family-based reform.

Are you trying to delete this because it's not age-appropriate or because it's irrelevant to the "Music" aspect of Music Banter?
