Yeah most people have had at least one strain of the HPV at some point in their lives; the oral lesions being very common (types 6, 7, 11, 16, 32). Type 1 is plantar warts found on your feet. But there are so many strains of the virus it's ridiculous, no wonder so many people have had it.

Cold sores (oral papillomas) are types 6, 7, 11, 16, and 32. See:

If you look at the table you can really see how many different types there are! It's quite scary.

BD, that sucks that you weren't able to get it being in 11th grade.

Which is the one that the vaccine is against Not to be confused with Herpes Simplex Virus (which is not related to the vaccine as far as I know).

My bad! I didn't think they were related. I think papillomas are different. I don't think the vaccine has anything to do with HSV. I could be wrong, though.

I think it is its own strain actually.

It's part of the family that related to things like chicken pox though according to that wiki link.
