What's your unfounded fear?

The more common fears people have are
The fear of the dentist
The fear of public speaking
The fear of death
The fear of being misunderstood

I'm not asking about those fears, just the unusual ones.
What fear you have but are unfounded or impossible.

I listen to talk radio a lot, and whenever the host mentions the caller's name and it's the same as mine, I have this fear I will hear my voice on the radio. Then I think, wait I didn't call, and then I listen in anticapation until the caller says something, and then I have this releif com over me when I hear it's someone else's voice.

cheezyridr 05-22-2009 10:51 PM

bees and wasps.
i'll fight an entire gang of men if i have to, but one bee, and i'll run screaming like a little girl.

What about a gang.... OF MAN BEES.

Unrelenting 05-22-2009 11:42 PM

Houseflies.

Those things are disgusting and terrifying.

Freebase Dali 05-22-2009 11:59 PM

I'm not really afraid of those kind of things...

The potentially savage nature of reality scares me because I feel like I may be forced to become something lesser than I am just to survive.
I'm afraid of humanity and its potential to fall apart at the seams.
I'm afraid of how thin those threads that hold everything together are.
I know that if the day arrives where I'll be faced with the need to resort to any means necessary, I'll be able..
But I'm afraid of who I'll become.

It's nice to focus on the glossy surface of our existence, be distracted by everything we're distracted by... I wish I did that as easily as I used to.
Of course, whether my fears are unfounded or not...
That is another discussion.

Unrelenting 05-23-2009 12:04 AM

What made it less easy to distract yourself?

Time and observation.
As an INFJ personality type, I tend to analyze things in a wide angle when it comes to the human condition. And I'm also a cynic. As I mature, which is a constant thing for most people, I begin making connections that I previously couldn't see while previously enamored with the glitz and glow of our societal ideals.
Naturally, for me, my observations shine more light on the negative things and gradually my outlook on humanity as a whole becomes colored with these disturbing under-lays I see swimming below the surface of this synthetic lifestyle we make for ourselves.
I see, what I perceive as; the truth... and it weighs more than the disposable crap we're using as a foundation of our ideals.

My perception inevitably becomes attracted by the gravity of those realizations.

Freebase Dali 05-23-2009 02:15 AM

Wow.
I gotta stop getting high and typing things.

boo boo 05-23-2009 02:53 AM

Wasps, Cockroaches.

Blow driers.

The top 2 are castration and blindness.

I do but it's not unfounded.

The Unfan 05-23-2009 05:43 AM

Driving. Moving vehicles are fine as long as I'm not the one driving it.

Guybrush 05-23-2009 06:07 AM

Something tells me not to eat stuff which is still alive like grasshoppers, yet they often provide a completely viable, relatively risk-free source of nutrition.

Like I'd have a problem eating this sucker if it was still alive :

http://www.defence.gov.au/news/raafn...der%2001-2.jpg

.. even if you cut off the pincers .. Yet I don't think it would be considered dangerous to do so. I'm not sure it's not completely unfounded (are any fears?), but I don't think it's completely rational.

simplephysics 05-23-2009 01:11 PM

I'm terrified of heights, even the swing sets in grade school had me nervous.

6underground 05-23-2009 01:15 PM

Jello. Seriously - it looks alive.

Gone Sugaring 05-23-2009 01:17 PM

Dolls in all their forms. Whether it be porcelain dolls or barbies, they completely terrify me. It was so hard being a little girl because people assume it's safe to buy you a doll for Christmas or your birthday. I once received a doll the same size as me, it could also walk and blink it's eyes. I refused to sleep anywhere near it and then my parents finally threw it out.

jackhammer 05-23-2009 01:29 PM

Worms and slugs. My stomach turns over when I see those things. Spiders are no problems though.

I am the opposite, I am afraid of spiders but not worms and slugs. Tarantulas freak me out even pictures, I wasn't afraid of tiny spiders until a friend of mine was bit by one a got a bad infection from it.

But I have a new insect fear, Crazy Raspberry Ants. I heard they have problem with a new type of ant in Texas, it's name comes from the exterminator who the frirst to identify them Ton Raspberry. They arrived in a cargo form the Carribean that contained about 500 ants, nowthey're they into the billions, they are drawn to electrical-equipment, anyone heard of them?

simplephysics 05-23-2009 05:27 PM

Where'd the crazy come from? Now that's an ant I'd like to smush.

LoathsomePete 05-23-2009 05:55 PM

Old fashioned diving suits terrify me for reasons beyond my own comprehension.

djchameleon 05-23-2009 06:04 PM

I hate maggots so badly.....I have had too many nightmares about them. worms are okay but maggots...good gawd....I love spiders also because they kill alot of other insects for me so I try to protect spiders at all costs.

FaSho 05-23-2009 06:12 PM

Any large insect.

You mean like these?

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image..._diver_203.jpg

You should consider playing the game Bioshock (or not) :)

NSW 05-24-2009 11:46 AM

Rats and mice...but only when they come out of no where to scare the crap out of me. When they are in captivity it's not so bad, I've even petted them when in cages, but if I were to see one run across the floor right now, I would scream like a five year old girl and jump on a table.

I already have, the big daddies just exacerbated the creepiness of the game.

Double X 05-24-2009 12:01 PM

Nuclear war and then everyone becomes cannibals/scavengers.

And Silent Hill 2 was so much scarier than Bioshock. Bioshock was creepy though.

it's only creepy when you walk into the bathroom at three in the morning all sleep-drunk and find a severed mouse's head awaiting you, courtesy of your cat.

if they're going to eat the damn things, so be it, but don't leave body parts lying everywhere. that's just inconsiderate.

Try waking up with a dead snake on your chest, that's something you don't easily forget. My cat Mya managed to catch one in the backyard, it was just a garter snake outside while I was napping in the afternoon, I wake up to dinner and there's this snake laying on my chest.

zeppy111 05-24-2009 12:29 PM

Clowns count? I have a massive fear of those multi-coloured buggers!

TumorAttitude 05-24-2009 05:11 PM

Scared of my tongue turning into a gummy worm while I'm kissing someone.
Or while I'm eating. Can you imagine eating your own tongue?

Mirrorball95 05-24-2009 06:23 PM

Wasps, Stepping on Shiit, Comus. :shycouch:

Same here, they scare the hell out of me, I don't know how many times I've been chased by them because I won't stay still and just run! I've had reoccuring nightmares about them being on me.

Apart from that I am afraid of moths. Love spiders!

Guybrush 05-26-2009 04:00 AM

Tsk tsk, so many are scared of harmless animals. Fear of insects is mostly irrational of course and ..
