You'll be surprised. To me you do seem pretty aware of what's popular currently. I remember a conversation we had about a month ago where you were talking about how overplayed some Muse song is but I had never heard of it (can't name any of their songs to be honest and I would never have even heard of them if it weren't for MB). That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Hmm, maybe I'm more aware than I think. I've been listening to the radio the last couple of days going to and from work. This station are meant to be a 'cool' radio station. A station that plays the latest Indie/Alt tracks etc.

It's not actually that bad to be fair to them. Though hey play the same bands quite a bit, so off that basis I guess I know what rock bands are kind of popular.. Even if it isn't top 40 popular.

So my awareness the last 2 days has gone up considerably. I know that Biffy Clyro are really popular at the moment. I've heard 'Bubbles' 5 times in two days..

These days I don't bother doing any of that & most of my friends have much more important priorities than talking about & following music. My only contact with what's happening comes from the odd snippet on TV or radio & this forum.

I like having the freedom to listen to albums both past & present with pretty much no expectations.
Yep, that pretty much sums it up. What you've described is basically my main reason for being a part of this forum. Very few of my friends are still as into talking about music as they used to be so MB is my outlet. Humorously enough, I joined this site about six weeks after I turned 30 and about 3 weeks before I got married. I didn't choose that time intentionally but in retrospect it totally makes sense that I joined when I did.

And your post is the first time I've ever heard the name Biffy Clyro.

I'll not be wasting my energy trying to find out what's cool at the moment in terms of the chart or any cult bands creating a hype. As cliché as it probably sounds, if I like it then I'll listen to it, and that's what I'd consider as being good or 'cool' to me.

Seriously? I knew about them before they were popular. They've been going years, they've really hit the big time with their last album though.

Haha, when I first heard Saturday Superhouse on MTV2, I thought Biffy were new and Puzzle was their debut. Turns out they'd had 3 albums and a shed load of b-sides prior to then.

Awesome band though. First 3 albums are absolutely stellar.

Never heard them before (and still haven't since that video isn't working) but looking at their Wikipedia page I see that their first album came out when I was already in my mid-20s so that probably explains why. Well, that and the fact that it looks like they're only popular in the UK.

Don't pin that on all of us.

They're worth listening to. Half decent band, and I think Youtube is playing up at the moment. But yeah they seem to be quite popular here in the UK, I dunno if they're popular anywhere else though. Might be in popular in Europe, they've done a few European tours I think. I thought everyone knew Biffy Clyro. MB never ceases to amaze me.
