right-track 11-05-2009 02:54 PM

Don't start arguing over something like this for christs sake.

In general.

army sucking or not,...

to be born into freedom is a mistake
to live in freedom is a struggle
to die in freedom is an obligation

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 11-05-2009 04:14 PM

yea the guy/s who did it are scum, but i'm not going to pretend that something like this surprises me.

i find it hard to have sympathy for those hurt/killed, and their families, considering they signed up to become killers anyways. bit of a double standard.

BBC NEWS | UK | Five British soldiers shot dead

interesting post
i'm sure it will be a week or better until we have explanations for anything, if we ever really do

crash_override 11-05-2009 04:43 PM

This has been a devastating story we've been following all day from work. The death toll seemed to just keep rising. I can't imagine what must be going on there. While the military can make you crazy, there is no excuse for killing your brothers in arms.

I'm sure the Army will release a statement by the end of the day with all the details they have about the investigation. I'm sure they're not wasting time on this one.

You're right, it is everywhere, but I think America does have a comparatively high level of crime among the developed countries.

But yea, people scare me...):

He walked up to a graduation ceremony though.

Even on base, gun restrictions are fairly consistent and you're not just allowed to walk around with guns...for obvious reasons.

Sky News and ABC were reporting the same thing. But yeah, apparantly he is custody.

Blue 11-06-2009 10:51 AM

That is awful, I have to agree. My condolences are out to all those effected.

Perhaps I'm strange for this, but I do kind of find of weird that people are really hurt by these 12 deaths when thousands are dying in a place like Africa everyday. I know that may be a tad cliche to say, and I obviously don't mean to take any value away from the lives lost, but perhaps just curious as to why we value these lives over the thousands of others none of us say anything about. I suppose it's just that it's close to home and more personal, but death is death really.

Barnard17 11-06-2009 11:43 AM

Partly that, partly perhaps also the fact that the deaths in Fort Hood occurred as the direct result of someone's actions, especially someone that had up until that point been considered to be a part of the community. I agree that any unnecessary death is tragic but people will always feel more affected by a death that is closer to their own sphere of life.
