simplephysics 01-24-2010 04:14 PM

demitri martin can be pretty funny when he's not trying hard.
"I think they named oranges before they named carrots."

I like most of the stand up comics on comedy central, besides the women.

littleknowitall 01-24-2010 04:17 PM

I did mention her but I've found I liked most of the lesser known comedians that appeared on Michael McIntyres Comedy roadshow.

Dr.Seussicide 01-24-2010 04:44 PM

Stand-up is teh shiz. Dane Cook's "Vicious Circle" was funny as hell.

midnight rain 01-24-2010 04:54 PM

Clearly you don't see the genius in jumping around like an idiot with ADD and ripping off jokes.

You speak the truth sir :thumb: The guy's quite possibly my favourite English comic doing the rounds today.

Another good video of his...

wat?

Bill Hicks? Up there with George Carlin as one of the most well known and loved American stand ups.

The rest are British and are all tremendously funny. Do Americans 'get' British humour? Because there's all this talk of ' British humour' like you don't get it, yet the Brits seem to understand and appreciate American stand up just as much as British stand up. So I just don't know.

Jimmy Carr dealing with heckler:

simplephysics 10-17-2010 10:31 PM

I was pretty bummed to hear about Greg Giraldo dying, he was hilarious.

Oh okay, I do know who Bill Hicks is, I just haven't heard much of his material because it's from a while ago.

As for that Brithish guy: didn't that guy do a game show or something? I've seen him somewhere before. Maybe the original "Who's Line Is it Anyways?"?

Arya Stark 10-17-2010 10:52 PM

I have been watching so much stand up comedy.
I just watched a 1 1/2 hour tribute to the Latina Queens of Comedy.
Anyone seen it?

How was it "weak"? It was over-the-top and completely stream-of-consciousness, I found it to not only be funny but very satisfying. It's what anyone would have done if they didn't have the social mechanisms to stop themselves. Completely unleashed at her. Better than Carlin's response, I think.

That whole performance is funny. Later on she starts up again and he tells her boyfriend "Sir, will you stick your **** in her mouth and shut her up?". He goes off on a huge rant later when someone shouts "Freebird". I find it to be very entertaining because he bombs so much but doesn't care, he knows it's funny and I know it's funny. The audience were just expecting all **** jokes.

LoathsomePete 10-17-2010 11:05 PM

I think had Youtube existed back when Bill did that show, he would have ended with a fate similar to Michael Richards.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-17-2010 11:06 PM

Don't remind me of that ridiculous incident.

Mojo 10-18-2010 01:20 AM

He's got a point though. I mean, i love Seinfeld. It's actually my favourite show and so I love Kramer too. But there was no defending that, of course. However, the only reason any of us know about it is because of Youtube.

Some of my favourite stand-up..

Dylan Moran talking about America.

Rhod Gilbert has problems at baggage claim....

Ross Noble on meeting 50 Cent.

Yeah but that shouldn't justify it. It's his fault he said those things in a place he could get caught.
It would have gotten around either way because he's famous.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-18-2010 02:17 PM

To be completely honest, I think was blown out of proportion. Like Chris Rock said, things used to be different in comedy clubs. A comedian could say anything he wanted and it'd stay in that club. What he did was stupid, but I don't think he had ill intent. According to him, the heckling was getting bad so he tried to stop it by "being even more outrageous". Might just have been a joke that bombed that night had it not been for YouTube. And now, everybody has to be so PC all the time because they're petrified that anything they say will be taken out of context or blown up with the internet.

So expletive-filled rants with no meaning, wit or cleverness to them is something to aspire to? I think a middle schooler is capable of that. I find bombing to be just that, bombing.

I didn't say he was funny that night.

Sorry, I thought you quoted my post on Michael Richards.

I do think he was funny that night. He was "bombing" with the audience that night because they were a bunch of drunk c*nts. Doesn't mean he wasn't funny. I liked how over the top and cathartic he was.

Nah, I meant the Bill Hicks performance. Haven't heard of Michael Richards, though.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-18-2010 02:49 PM

He did a show at The Laugh Factory where he called a couple of hecklers the N word, and that got him into a world of hurt.

Violent & Funky 10-18-2010 02:53 PM

I thought Ross Noble was this guy at first:
