I believe in this quote from Fight Club though, "How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?"

I really don't know my own strength, for one, but it goes beyond that. I feel that I lack confidence in many areas as a result of never having been in a fight. It sounds silly, sure. Maybe others that have been in fights would say that's bull**** and stupid, but they don't know the other side of the argument any more than I know what it's like to be in a fight.

Truly though, I've always been afraid to break someone's face.

I've never really been in a real fight, and so I too feel this issue.

About being afraid to break someone's face, do you mean you're afraid you'll snap and kick someone's ass, or do you mean that you think if you ever were in a real fight you wouldn't punch someone hard in the face, fearing that they would get hurt too much?

The few pseudo fights i've gotten into I just rendered the opponent useless by using my weight to hold them against a wall or restrain them, i've never gone for the whole punching aproach. Thus, I lack some confidence in my punching, I feel if I punch someone straightforward in the face or in the gut, It'll go in slow motion and I'll hurt my wrist instead of the opponent. It's quite odd.

I have some times when I was a kid, but not much since. I got into a fight with a miner a few years back and that ended well with me sitting on top, punching him in the face. It was part thanks to my girlfriend, though. The guy jumped me from behind as I was leaving the pub and she got him off me so I could fight back.

It certainly did feel good. I'm not a particularly big/strong guy and there's plenty out there who'd kick my ass thoroughly, but I seem to have had some luck and perhaps the experiences from my childhood years are still some help. I know some dirty tricks. :p:

Both...afraid to cause someone that much harm and also afraid that I'd restrain myself and throw a very ineffective punch for fear of hurting them too much. If I was angry enough to throw a punch though, it would be fear of causing them too much harm.

I've had dreams of punching people over and over and it hardly doing anything to them. It felt like my strength was less than half of what I'd anticipated.

As unbelievable as it may sound, I got into my first fight at the age of five. A classmate of mine approached me as I was selecting my textbooks from this large, communal table, and suddenly snatched the book I had chosen. Without saying anything I turned around and punched him in the stomach as hard as I could, which caused him to fall on the floor and start vomiting. Needless to say I remember the incident very vividly, I even remember the feeling of his stomach absorbing my punch. Since then I've been in quite a few scraps, although I would classify very few of them as being significantly violent.

Other memorable incidents include a fight where I knocked out another man's tooth (which left me a weird hook-shaped scar on my hand), a fight where I got hit in the ear so hard I couldn't hear out of it for a week, and the time I fought a fellow hockey player and broke his collarbone as we fell to the ice. Playing hockey has afforded me the opportunity, or rather responsibility, to explore the pugilistic side of life. However, I've never boasted about my fighting skills, and adhere strictly to the advice my mother gave me after that first fight; "Never throw the first punch, but when you're in a fight don't let up until you're sure it's over."

I nearly had a fight the other day in the pub, someone actually said the words "You, me, outside."

He looked like BNP member, skin head, tattooed up (Man City football tattoos, and yeah you guessed it, the argument as over football) mid 40s, small, gobby.

I laughed at the little cunt.

It is common for me to have dreams like that about things I have never attempted. Before I learned to drive, I would have dreams about not being able to control the car. Once I learned those dreams stopped. I think it is the same for dreams about fighting...I've never been in one myself and my dreams (when I have them about fighting) pretty much happen like yours.

Mostly, though...I don't mind that I have never been in a fight. I'm actually proud to know that I've resolved most things that have come at me with logic. I do know, though, that I would back up a friend or defend my family if the time came. That's just something I can feel about myself...so that is enough for me.

Ive always been a big dude, which means it seems like everyone calls on me first to help and Ive always been to big to run away :p:

Last time I counted which has been a while it was up to 40 fights... that includes pretty much grade school... You take out since I was 18 it would be something like 15.

With that said... I am not afraid to say Ive lost some fights (I thinking about 5 all before I was 18)... mostly because I stuck my nose where it didn't belong. Ive learned alot from losing... One big one was... I didn't realize everyone around me was family with the dude I was fighting. :usehead: *knocks on wood*

Injurys for me I guess would be I broke my pinky knuckle because I didnt hit a guy correctly but (I got blood on my other hand from his nose so I felt pretty good about it) I got one of my front bottom tooth chipped, alot of busted lips, alot of bruised cheeks, broke my glasses like to many times ( which has lead to me getting cut), and gotten knocked out in the middle of fight from a guy who tried to help but missed and hit me with a log.

My funniest one, was my cousins roommate when I was 19, This dude had called this girl's Boyfriend i was talking to and telling him I had his girlfriend over at my house. Which lead to her crying and pretty much **** blocking me for a while. So I called a ahead and had my cousin unlock the door, I walked in a slapped this dude on his own couch like 6 times calling him a pussy. Dude didn't even get up, I even spit on him. It wasn't really a fight because all I did was slap the dude and have him tell me sorry like 500 times but it was some fun **** to slap a dude on his couch and spit on him. Kinda wish he would of stood up though it be a better story, but dude talked so much **** for years on how bad ass he was, and that one night made him a bitch for life.

To Paloma... One of the most bad ass fights ive ever seen have been between girls, I seen this girl take and throw another girl on the ground and literally break this girls face on concrete and pretty much grind her nose off.The blood stain was there for years and girl had to get her face reconstructed. Plus it is always nice to see some Boobs in chick fights... even if they are just pulling hair :D

I used to also have dreams of riding my bike and constantly falling to one side. I'd get up, start pedaling, fall again. Over and over. And I had been riding bikes for years by that point, kind of weird.

Yeah same here...sometimes I feel like having been in one would provide some answers I lack, but in reality, probably not. I am a very logical person and feel I have good reasoning skills (though my decision-making skills seem to be getting worse). I guess I'm proud the same way I'm proud that I've never broken a bone.

Girl fights always disturbed me, they are just vicious...pulling each other's hair, punching each other in the boob, etc. Not that guy fights are nice or anything, they just don't seem 'vicious' like girl fights. And I don't enjoy seeing women hurting each other, sorry. Of the ones I've seen, there's usually one that's doing nothing but defending herself and crying, getting beat up by some trashy bitch, and it's just uncool.

^ I definitely notice a difference between us guys fighting and seeing girls fight...
Guys always have to prove something. More than half the time, a fight between guys is two people either stubborn or drunk enough to try and prove who is physically superior, and mainly for ego purposes.
Girls, on the other hand, seem like they're just out to totally destroy the other girl. It's never really backed up by physical force in the way it is with guys, so it never seems that serious physically, but emotionally, they're not looking for a simple step-aside... they want blood, guts, and destruction.
You put that type of mind-set in a capable guy, and you've got yourself a manslaughter 90 percent of the time.
