Have you ever been in a fight?

And if so, did you kick ass or get your ass kicked? I've only been in one fight, in grade 6, and it wasn't really much of one. In fact, I hardly even count it. It was a pretty even fight, I guess - just two young dudes punching each other in the face a couple of times before it came to an end...nothing serious. We both took our lumps.

I've been in loads of fights, I've never had my ass kicked though. It's always been split up or I've got the better and stopped.
It's been a long time since my last one, about 4 years I believe and it was the day before my mum's graduation, she wasn't happy

33 years and no. Only very minor stuff that couldn't be considered a fight.

I believe in this quote from Fight Club though, "How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?"

I really don't know my own strength, for one, but it goes beyond that. I feel that I lack confidence in many areas as a result of never having been in a fight. It sounds silly, sure. Maybe others that have been in fights would say that's bull**** and stupid, but they don't know the other side of the argument any more than I know what it's like to be in a fight.

Truly though, I've always been afraid to break someone's face.

I think that's pretty accurate.
When you whoop someone's ass the first time, you definitely gain some confidence. A lot of times you gain a little too much.

And when you get your's whooped the first time, you gain some humility. Of that, you can never have enough.

Overall I don't think it's necessary for a man to know who he can best in a fight in order for him to be confident about himself. The confidence comes from knowing that when you are presented with a situation in which you MUST defend yourself and/or your family, you know that you aren't afraid to act, regardless of the outcome.

Never a proper one, although this one time me and my flatmate went drinking around Bolton that was a close call. We were in the smoking bit outside, he started flirting with this girl who turned out to be this meaty old sod's niece and, for some reason, he thought it was a good idea to take a few swings at me instead. Took quite a whack to the ribs, which hurt for a few more days, but that was it before his mates held him back and cooled things down.

I've been in plenty of them, for a large part of my life I did not control my temper, and some points I could get aggravated to the point I would snap and black out and not be able to control myself. This is very rare for me now, I learned to control that nonsense a while back. I'll only get irritated with people now, rarely ever angry.

I really hate the way girls fight though, mother****er you scratch me or pull my hair I'm gonna punch your tits up to your damn throat... but I've had my tussles with boys mostly.

Exactly. And thanks for bringing up the point about gaining humility too. That's just as important.

My problem is that for my whole life, I've internalized any anger I had toward others. Sometimes I took it out on inanimate objects, but mostly it's internalized. I feel sorry for the motherfucker that finally makes me reach my breaking point.
