Oh! You're welcome. Is...is this some sort of new polite strategy you're trying out on me?!? I'm...speechless!

Wait...the words are coming back. Sorry! I hate to extinguish any euphoria you might have been briefly experiencing.

If you want to make a difference, go out and do something about it. Letting your heart bleed all over MB isn't going to change anything.
Are you in any activist groups? Actively campaigning? Lobbying?
Or just sitting around idly having an opinion?
Oh, sure, I'm in activist groups, though the way I get to be involved with informing people about population growth issues is through a university class I help with...and of course there I would never express my frustration with people in the developed world having more than 2 kids. The first rule of activism is not to show anger and frustration, even when these emotions stem from concern and compassion about humanity.

If I were trying to change MB people's views about the number of children they should have, I wouldn't have posted in this thread in the fashion I did. Or, I would have phrased my feelings in a more polite fashion: "One way to help ensure our children and future generations have enough resources for the high standard of living we now enjoy is to plan our families so that we have two children or fewer." But that wouldn't be such an unpopular opinion, now would it!

I think your joke misses the point of limiting population size. *I* wouldn't want the cup of sugar. I would want the extra resources to go to your nieces/nephews (if you have any) and *their* descendants. In other words, the future generation. Also, I don't eat sugar.

You don't have kids...yet. You probably will. I hope you do, because I look forward to continuing our spanking debate then.

True, you can't *control* people like puppets, but advertisers and public policy makers know that you can shape public policy and messages so that people are likely to do what you want.

For example, it is well-known now that if a developing country 1. improves education for girls (and boys), 2. makes sure jobs are available so people can earn a decent living, 3. works for women's social and legal equality, and 4. provides some form of social security for people in old age, then women typically choose to have around two children...not six or more. If people don't rely on kids for financial security and social status, then they tend to have fewer.

Actually you kinda helped get me thinking differently about the spanking thing.
(Don't think I'm going to stop eating meat though! haha)
And if I had kids, I wouldn't want more than 2 or 3 anyway, so don't worry about that.

my unpopular non-music opinions:

1) Boxing, Wrestling, UFC, Extreme Martial Arts, etc. (other forms of staged fight) contributes largely to the increasing violence that humanity is facing. In our modern media time, these are easily watched by children and everyone giving a wrong impression that it's ok to hit someone or drew blood on someone else's face just for the sake of entertainment.

2) Most of the so called 'religious people' or those that regard themselves as Christian/Church followers are the mostly the ones who are mean, rude, strict, close-minded, corrupt, dishonest, egoistic and downright power-tripper.

3) A lot of people point to the Bible when ask why homosexuality or same sex relationships are wrong. Little do they know that in the Bible, there are more rules that are violated that people don't know are already a sin...as per the Bible. examples: wives are supposed to be 'submissive' to their husbands (I Peter 3:1). And all women are forbidden to teach men (I Timothy 2:12), wear gold or pearls (I Timothy 2:9) or dress in clothing that 'pertains to a man' (Deuteronomy 22:5). eating Shellfish and pork are definitely out (Leviticus 11:7, 10) as are usury (Deuteronomy 23:19), shaving (Leviticus 19:27) and clothes of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19). And since the Bible rarely recognizes divorce, they're committing adultery, which carries the rather harsh penalty of death by stoning (Deuteronomy 22:22).
