The Miss Universe 2010 Thread

So, they've selected the contestants for Miss Universe 2010. Who do you guys think is most likely to win this time around? Here's a link with the respective candidates:

Toss-up between Venezuela, South Africa, Spain, and Peru for me. USA is looking good but her eyebrows are ridiculous.

If I were a judge, I'd vote Peru, so I'm going with that as my prediction.

Bahaha! You're one to talk about eyebrows. =P

Miss Pakistan had to be replaced due to being washed away by the flood water.

Thankfully there are plenty more in the sea.

Too soon.

Ha! I laughed.

This contest is operating under the assumption that there are no other forms of female life in the universe, how silly

NumberNineDream 08-13-2010 12:02 PM

I'll go with these two. Lebanon & USA (I'm always subjective in these contests):

Lebanon's cute

^Indeedy.

Flower Child 08-13-2010 04:59 PM

India. She blows them all away. My money's on her.

And I agree, USA's eyebrows are going to cost her the crown. She needs some help from my old pal Kramer.

Thailand is my pick.

Laces Out Dan! 08-14-2010 12:58 PM

How are these people chosen anyways. I could put forward probably 9 or 10 Canadian girls Ive had sex with that are hotter than our Miss Canada here.

Alfred 08-14-2010 01:11 PM

Yeah, I personally don't find our chosen woman to be anything special.

loveissucide 08-14-2010 01:24 PM

Finland or Bolivia.
Ireland,Italy and Germany could definitely have done better in their search.

jackhammer 08-14-2010 07:07 PM

Does this still go on? So it's not like Mr Universe where you have the buffest body and the smallest knob then? You just have to look cute and empty headed? May as well have held it in a shed in Essex. Same thing isn't it?

Yep...it still goes on, though the popularity of beauty contests is dropping. That may be why this year contestants were asked to have pictures taken of themselves topless! I'm sure, though, that the interview and talent components count heavily.

Well, after some preliminary investigation of the contestants, including searching for responses to interview questions, I think Puerto Rico's contestant, Mariana Paola Vicente, might win. She's a model who is certainly hoping to further her already established career through this contest. I think she looks pretty and shows personality, with some pensive brooding looks that I like:

I haven't seen the Extraterrestrial contestants yet, but for the moment I'd vote for the Swede of Croatian descent (Michaela Savić) or the Puerto Rican of Spanish descent (Mariana Paola Vicente).

I like Miss India and Miss Philippines. Miss Spain is gorgeous.

Miss Tanzania is beautiful. Miss Thailand is gorgeous.

Miss Singapore is alright.

Disappointed in Miss Puerto Rico.

I forgot Miss Egypt:

BTW, she doesn't seem to be very Muslim. Must be Copt or (better) agnostic/atheist (I hope so, it would be great to know there are stunning agnostic/atheist girls in Egypt too ).

AwwSugar! What is it that makes you feel disappointed in Miss Puerto Rico? Is it that she isn't representative of the ethnic diversity of Puerto Rico? Or is her personality not so pleasant for some reason? Or is it just that you don't think she's very attractive?

Really, all the contestants look quite beautiful in their own way, I feel. The whole business of ranking of women (and men) based on beauty has always struck me as rather perverse...like a modern slave auction. Check their teeth! But I 'spose it's "all in good fun," or so the contestants and supporters say. Kind of kinky.

But I think it should be a contest where no make-up is allowed. Seeing these people when they aren't putting on a facade would make it more interesting. Maybe a contest like this: "Okay, 5 minutes after you wake up, we will have the beauty contest!" Heh heh.

Despite that being my opinion of beauty contests, I do feel Miss Indonesia looks very elegant and friendly here, in a posed and poised way:

http://media2.intoday.in/wonderwoman...3Indonesia.jpg

Quite a bit different than her old look! One benefit of beauty contests, I feel, is that they support women's freedom to choose how they want to appear. Yet the downside is that contests pressure them to appear a certain way (usually high heels, lots of make-up, etc.), plus think excessively about their appearance.

¡Pero si es guapísima, Aww! Isn't she beautiful? I understand we have different tastes, since you don't like Ashley Harkleroad and I find her hot as hell, but I thought this time we would agree.

Heh heh. I was going to ask the same thing, Urban...except in a different way, of course! :D

I just thought it would be good to point out that not all Muslim women cover up body/hair. It all depends on people's belief systems, and most religions have more orthodox beliefs and more liberal interpretations, don't they?

Here's an interesting article about Muslim women who are defying stereotypes about Muslim women by painting them nude in erotic ways:
Rise of Islamo-Erotica, Ignoring prohibition of nudity, Muslim women artists defying religious tenets painting naked models | Womens Rights | Muslims Debate

As another example: the U.S. Miss Universe contestant is Muslim and posed with her back bare (as opposed to her front, like some of the contestants), saying that she wasn't going to show her breasts in deference to Muslim sensibilities: “For me, I like to do the back,” she said. “I didn't want to do the front for many reasons, and one of them being in respect, I'm Arab, I'm Muslim, and I didn't want to disappoint many people.” So, she probably has her own rules and ideas about what she feels comfortable doing, regardless what certain Muslim groups feel: Miss USA 2010: Rima Fakih from Michigan becomes first Muslim woman to win | Mail Online
http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/272655...hem-how-behave

Also, Zaqarbal, I never thought there might be an association between being atheist like me and feeling comfortable with public nudity! Hmmm....maybe if I start emphasizing a connection between atheism and nudity, we atheists will get a lot more converts. ;)

No mira Puertoriquena.
Siempre tienen alguien de piel muy, muy clara.

She's pretty, yeah. But I had just hoped we'd be able to tell Miss Puerto from all of the other girls. Not happy.

Well, it's true that when I looked at all the contestants, it was hard for me to tell many of them apart. Miss Puerto Rico is one of the few with blondish hair (possibly dye)...so that's different!

I actually wonder if being blondish will work against Miss Puerto Rico, since choosing people who have the pale, blond Aryan look is so 1940s. Or maybe 1990s. I wonder sometimes if people now may tend *not* to prefer blond hair because to say that you do may make others suspicious that you are a racist Ku-Klux-Klan type.

Ms. Antarctica looks the most unique, I'd say. And she's plump! She's got a great fish-regurgitation talent, too. ;)

Eh. I just wish she was... not so generic.
Whatever, nothing I can do about it.

No, but I don't expect to see a Muslim wearing a bikini. That's not common at all, except in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and maybe in a few countries more (that is, exceptions to the rule). But maybe you see a lot of Muslim girls with bikini every day and that's why you're so surprised for what I wrote.

Yes, and you forgot the Reverse Burka, which is very popular too. OK, so you just put some exceptions and the problem is solved, isn't it? Good.

No, what I meant is that being Muslim and posing with bikini is highly improbable in Egypt. Keywords: IMPROBABLE and EGYPT. But maybe I'm wrong and Donia Hamed is a very good Muslim. And maybe she drinks wine and eats ham too, because she "interprets" Koran in a modern liberal way... Or maybe she makes "liberal interpretations" selectively, like alcohol and ham no, nudity yes. After all, the opposite thing exists already:

Honestly, I will never understand that politically correct naivety some trendy lefties have when it comes to Islam. :D
