The first step is denial that your drinking is harmful. It doesn't matter what age you are, you can still be dependent on substances (been there). I'm just concerned for your well being. I do realise it's up to you to recognise this. Like I've said before I'm here if you need someone to rant or talk to. :)

There are things that have happened to me/things I have seen or experienced that I never once spoke of (probably to anyone, actually) - not because I ever feared getting into trouble or anything silly like that, but because I didn't want my parents to know how damaged I'd actually become.

They'll be alright, just the same. I might even write it in advance, in case I die before I have the chance to publish my work.

They had nothing to do with it; it's of no closure or benefit to me to have them know the agony that chased me down after I left.

I am sure as your parents they would want to know. They will always be concerned about you even if you are in a better place now.
