The above quote is from some of the text in the article you posted from. Juvenile features here means less visible body hair and so it basically proposes that males have evolved a preference for females with less visibler body hair, just like CarnwllCorfe's quote suggests.

Checking out Wikipedia's article on hair, I see it says the following :

The idea that adult humans exhibit certain neotenous (juvenile) features, not evinced in the great apes, is about a century old. Louis Bolk made a long list of such traits, and Stephen Jay Gould published a short list in Ontogeny and Phylogeny. In addition, paedomorphic characteristics in women are widely acknowledged as desirable by men. For instance, vellus hair is a juvenile characteristic. However, while men develop longer, coarser, thicker, and darker terminal hair through sexual differentiation, women do not, leaving their vellus hair visible.
To those who don't understand all of the above, neoteny is the retention of childlike traits in adult individuals, so in a hairy situation where children are hairless and adults are hairy, neoteny would mean that adults have less hair - just like children. Preferential selection for neoteny in females means that males have selected for (preferred) less hairy females.

Vellus hair is hair is that body hair which is relatively invisible.

Sexual selection for less visible body hair in women also would explain why women on the whole are less hairy than men.

Cheap shot.

Initially, I was a bit surprised that there was actually a thread on this, but... then I remembered we have a thread on urinating in the shower.

There is nothing wrong with armpit hair on women.
Its not like they are going around flashing it.
I'm not advocating shaving as an alternative to washing, but shaving reduces the area that bacteria has to grow when you sweat through a day. And without the hair getting in the way, more deoderant gets onto your skin which reduces the chances of getting body odour before you next get a chance to shower. Try it, shave under yourams and then wash and tell me you dont feel much, much cleaner at the end of the day.

And there is no way that a shaved armpit doesnt look more aesthetically pleasing than a hairy one. There may not be anything 'wrong' with it, but to me the positives of removing it far outweight the positives of keeping it.

For the record, I don't feel 'dirty' because society made me that way. I feel dirty because I feel as if armpit hair lessens hygiene factors for me. No offense I feel stinkyer with slightly unshaven armpits. I'm not going to lie, society tells me to shave my legs too, but I often slack because I'm not wearing dresses or skirts in ****ing Scotland. I don't feel dirty then. I feel merely lazy .

I don't care if it's feminine or what anyone else thinks about it... and like I said, you CAN choose to not shave them, just know that many men find it very gross and disgusting.
I think really depends who's doing it and for what reason, if a woman looked like a hippie, wore a dress, wooden jewelry & had flip flops, and a little bit of hair under the armpit I think that would be kinda sexy, you know it could make her look more down to Earth and less high-maintenance and snooty. But then if she's wearing work boots and rubs snuff and drives a red Ford pick up truck and the tires were muddy then had hairy armpits on top of that - I could see how that could be a real turn off - maybe it depends how hot she was without looking at the armpits. If Jessica Simpson had hairy armpits would you turn her down? I doubt it.

whether or not Jessica Simpson had hairy armpits or not, is not a deciding factor, I wouldn't go for her either way

Ashlee Simpson, on the other hand......

Yes I would. Hairy women are not feminine to me. And I know some of the forum feminists are waiting to shout "YOU DONT DECIDE WHATS FEMININE!" Well, actually I do. And being hairy isn't something I have decided is feminine or attractive.

...Except you actually don't. Like, factually. Taste and all asides, you technically, literally do not.

I've decided having hairy armpits is not feminine.

And on the seventh day, Dirty said "Let there be no hair". And then there was no hair.
