Do you like Christmas?

Ronseal. Do you like Christmas?

Why do you/don't you?

Janszoon 10-27-2010 05:52 AM

What does "ronseal" mean?

downwardspiral 10-27-2010 05:54 AM

Not really. Can't stand the whole kerfuffle over just the one day, and it just makes people who don't have much money feel a lot worse because their kids end up feeling degraded in front of their mates who got loads of good presents and they didn't really get any. I just focus on stuff like that at Christmas, plus it always involves me spending time with my family and I don't like them and I have to pretend to and be nice on Christmas when I go round to my nans or else I'll get it in the neck.

I don't mind buying people presents, I'm not a cheapo. I prefer giving presents than receiving them.

British members will know, I'm too inconsiderate to think about the Americans. :D

Ronseal is a product, and the ad campaign was "It does what it says on the tin!"

Er, okay.

Well anyways, I like Christmas. I could give two shits about the religious component, but I like the idea of a holiday that celebrates giving and I enjoy getting together with family. Plus I have a lot of fond childhood memories associated with it.

FaSho 10-27-2010 07:18 AM

I don't undertsand the point of the thread.

thedownwardspiral.

It's cliché to be grumpy at Christmas.

Food, beer, presents!!!!11

Never gets old.

The forced jollity however...

Sansa Stark 10-27-2010 07:54 AM

I don't like getting presents, they're always ****ty presents

I do however like making Christmas foods

Violent & Funky 10-27-2010 07:59 AM

As far as holiday's go it's okay but there are a lot others that I enjoy more like Thanksgiving, July 4th, and Opening Day.

Christmas means it's cold and I have to go shopping. The best thing associated with it is that it is college football bowl season...

Insane Guest 10-27-2010 08:52 AM

The only reason I hate it is people wearing those ****ing santa hats, it pisses me off so bad, I hate looking everywhere and seeing those red hats, all they'd make is good fire wood. But honestly, the gifts are nice, but I do actually like seeing the family together, and just having a good time. They can save their damn trees though, I'm not an environmentalist or any of that ****, but I honestly think it's pretty pointless. All the happy decorations and lights just have to go.

Indeed. This pretty much sums it up for me.

I'll have to start making cookies soon!

Good one. Lets do a pros/cons to Christmas...

Pros:
Being around family
Copious amounts of delicious home-made food
It's acceptable to be drunk all day
Time off of work
Getting presents or money

Cons:
It's ****ing cold and possibly snowing
You have to buy people presents (often when you don't know **** about them)
THE ****ING MUSIC
Caroling
Awkward moments with family members who know you but you don't know them at all
Egg nog
Too many loud kids
Everything is closed
The entire religious baggage that comes with it

In summary, dislike a lot more things about christmas than I like, but it's still ok.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-27-2010 11:08 AM

I like Christmas, I just hate all the extended build up to it.

Like when people start threads about it in October.

miniraptor-x 10-27-2010 11:25 AM

Christmas is totally not needed, but I guess it's kinda fun when you look at it for what it really is and not the made up history of it the Catholic church.

It could have been a passing thought I had in January and I could have made it then.

Would you have disliked it because of all the aftermath of Christmas, like people making threads about it in January?

The build up to Christmas is my favourite bit tbf.
Buying a fridge/garage full of booze, loads of food, cold nights.
It's almost as good as the actual day.

I Just love getting shed loads of gifts ha ha + having a day with everyone close to you really brings you back down to earth and makes you appreciate the little things in life like being back with the family....

Bulldog 10-27-2010 02:47 PM

I just hope Santa's kinda enough to give me Football Manager 2011. Otherwise the whole thing really doesn't bother me an awful lot.

NSW 10-27-2010 05:25 PM

Not bothered by it, but to be fair I don't really care about it at all. I never celebrated it so there aren't any good memories attached to it, but who doesn't like getting a couple days off of work??

Scarlett O'Hara 10-28-2010 05:31 AM

Christmas means more presents and good food for me! So major yes!

ThePhanastasio 10-28-2010 07:04 AM

I'm not necessarily a fan of the holiday for the religious aspect of it, and I'm also not a fan of being dragged to midnight mass, but I do enjoy the spirit of giving and such associated with the holiday. People are genuinely nicer close to Christmas, excepting Black Friday shoppers here in the States (who are brutal, for those of you who many be unfamiliar with Black Friday shopping here).

I also really like getting to see my family, as they're kind of spread out. It's rather nice.

miniraptor-x 10-28-2010 07:11 AM

c'mon tho, the best part of X-Mas is TBS's 24 hours of a Christmas Story!

infantrysgirl18 10-28-2010 07:55 AM

I dont celebrate normally. Sometimes with the Christian side of the family....but I dont really mind it. I just feel its too commercialized. Christmas hype starts the second after Halloween ends and that just annoys me. Christmas has never really been important to me. I was never brought up to believe in it. At least there a good chance to see family and a lot of sales go on during this time. But the mall becomes a mad house. I try to avoid going to the mall for at least a month so I dont get caught in the Christmas shopping madness...

LoathsomePete 10-28-2010 10:08 AM

I wouldn't say I hate it, but for the last few years I've gone to celebrating the Winter Solstice with my friends and found myself having far more fun than Christmas day/ Christmas dinner. I always have to spend time with my step mom's family who are a prudish bunch and enjoy the smells of their own farts. When I was younger I usually just kept my mouth shut whenever one of them said something I disagreed with but the last few years I've been far more vocal at the dinner table which has caused some of them to rethink what they say around me.

I do generally like the feel of Vancouver around Christmas time, and I do miss seeing some of the elaborate Christmas light designs on people's balconies.

I hate this so much, all the TV stations that play Christams themed shows could just shove up their ass, who the **** wants to watch a terrible movie every year, that is the worst part of Christmas, traditions. Do something new, have ****ing Palm trees be the new tree, Change it up a little.

DoctorSoft 10-29-2010 06:24 AM

I like pretty much everything about Christmas, but I hate going to midnight mass. Presents, snow, santa and good food are always good though.

clutnuckle 10-29-2010 06:59 PM

Mostly it has to do with the weather, but I would say that I love it. It's been related to being free of school, and a bunch of teenage milestones that I won't bother getting into. Even though I'm misanthropic as you can get without becoming a shut-in, I still find some sort of awkward beauty in seeing relatives that I haven't seen in a long time. No idea why, probably just a reaction to the inevitable. Still, it's got to be one of my favorite times of the year.

jackhammer 10-29-2010 07:10 PM

No but it's the only time of year that I can drink a bottle of whiskey without getting moaned at.

Same, although I fear for my already shaky productivity were that to happen and attempt to make Finn Harps the new Real Madrid.

s_k 11-23-2010 08:26 PM

I do. I like winter, I like the food, I like the lights, I like the reasons to get together.
I don't like the commercial side of it all, but I choose not to join in on that.
I just like these months. I'm really a winter person :)

Farfisa 11-24-2010 12:28 AM

Christmas is ok, getting free stuff is pretty cool in my book, but it's more fun to point out that Christ wasn't born on Christmas day and it was simply used to try and convert pagans that had already celebrated the holiday.

You're right, Christmas needs to slow it's role.

You said what I would have said. Thanksgiving to me is the only Holiday I get excited about.

Alfred 11-24-2010 05:32 PM

Love Christmas, love all of the seasonal food, drink and candy, the two weeks off of school, and obviously the presents.

Hank The Drifter 11-24-2010 05:53 PM

Yes and no.

I like the food and free stuff that comes with Christmas. With that being said I must also say I dislike it. I know my parents aren't currently in the best financial situation, and I know most aren't in general, so I know its added stress to them. So I don't expect too much for Christmas because I don't want them to stress out. I'm the type person that can only handle being around a bunch of people for short periods of time so most holidays aren't for me because I spend hours inside a house with family I only see once a year and tend to become aggravated quickly. I like being around family and people for a little while but then ugh.

So, yeah I like it and no I don't.

I know this all sounds very selfish and maybe I am, but that's how I feel. lol.

loveissucide 11-28-2010 05:51 AM

Irish Christams sucks, so no.
