The "Serious disappointment in the human race" thread.

Serious thread time. In here we post things that make us realise that actually, no matter what the finest minds of the world can conjure up, people exist whose capacity for stupidity is so vast, so all-encompassing, that it will surely lead the human race to its inevitable doom.

Yes, it is depressing. No, I'm not asking for stories of people being humorously stupid. I'm asking you all to post in this thread, those news stories or tidbits of information that just make you feel like the human race is doomed to failure.

So is this a thread for misanthropes?

GuitarBizarre 02-02-2011 03:11 PM

If you must put it that way, sure.

The fact that your link sucked so bad makes me feel disappointed in you. Just for starters.

There is no need to make personal attacks a part of the thread - that isn't the point. Continuing to do so will be seen as trolling. I think GB explained the point of this thread pretty well, and if offensive posts are directed at specific members they will be deleted.

Paedantic Basterd 02-02-2011 04:19 PM

Hahahahahahaha, brilliant.

s_k 02-02-2011 05:13 PM

You're getting good at this, BD :)

RVCA 02-02-2011 05:13 PM

Did any of you see that video of the girl throwing newborn puppies into a river? Pretty awful

s_k 02-02-2011 05:29 PM

I've heard of it. Don't post it please.

Dayvan Cowboy 02-02-2011 06:01 PM

hey, GB, remember that little console war I had?
I'd post that here if it wasn't against the e-rules

But for those who weren't there:
I posted a harmless statement on my facebook "The Ps3 is better than the xbox" and some kid I know who doesn't know the first thing about consoles starts badmouthing LittleBigPlanet and praising those stupid FPS games. I actually posten the statement to cause an argument, but it went horribly wrong because I wanted an INTELLIGENT argument with somebody who also has all three consoles and has played them to an extent. Unfortunately, he wasn't the most intellectual, so we trolled the **** out of him. it was good.

jackhammer 02-02-2011 06:05 PM

U have only just realised that the human race is a fuck up?

We might have the most sophisticated brains in nature but they are quite possibly the most stupid.

Thom Yorke 02-02-2011 06:19 PM

My main beef with humanity is the inability of so many people to detect sarcasm. I just can't stand it when people can't.

I also found it unnerving that so many people were so quick to forgive Michael Vick. The dude dominated Pro Bowl voting (he was good this season, but had way more votes than other more deserving players). This came to a head at the Pro Bowl when Tony Siragusa called Michael Vick's re-emergence this season a "feel good story". Ugh...

Haha, I've known that for a long time now.
I'm actually surprised there's still people 'finding out'.
Optimists :)

C'mon man, there's no need to be so cynical. Humans are capable of some abslutely ****ed up things yes, but I truly believe that most people are good at heart, to (sort of) quote Anne Frank. You can't control how people treat you in life, but you sure as hell can control how you feel about it. To me, even in the darkest situations, there are always silver linings.

That sounds nice. I disagree, however. Humans suck and you can't count on anyone but yourself.

mr dave 02-02-2011 09:55 PM

so... a website with the retail equivalent of crank calling someone to ask them if their refrigerator is running is the epitome of human stupidity? i'm disappointed in you GB :( but i still think you're cool.

you wanted links to serious examples of human stupidity. the girl throwing puppies in the river, i'd argue against being stupid. reprehensible to the vast majority of modern / westernized views? absolutely. but that doesn't mean she realized the severity or ramifications of her actions.

cases like this one on the other hand... especially with how frequent they're becoming... this is a disturbing trend.

or even better... this class act

stupid people being desperate for attention.

This one has to be seen to be believed. Just wow.

Well I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I think we can both agree that things like this are not black or white. No person is entirely good or bad.

DoctorSoft 02-02-2011 10:36 PM

I take back what I said to RVCA after watching that video. WHAT. THE. ****

Bloozcrooz 02-02-2011 10:40 PM

There has to be more to that story or something. I cant see why anyone unprovokingly would be that cold to someones illness. That is mind blowing!! Not saying that its ok even if they were provoked, but just to do it out of sheer meaness is crazy. I bet there is more to that story than whats being told...jesus.

Yeah that's what I thought. Surely the girl's mother must have done SOMETHING to provoke these people before she died. Not saying that makes their actions right at all, but still.

Thom Yorke 02-02-2011 10:47 PM

I watched some more videos on it and apparently the resentment comes from her daughter not being invited to the dying girl's birthday. Also she did a public apology that seemed really half-hearted after the media picked the story up (honestly who even cares if she apologized anyways? It's beyond ****ed up what she said in the first place). And THEN she said she "didn't give a **** who's dying" after the apology.

I don't know... bizzare story.

I think her main intent was to keep things from spiraling into a shit fest. It's safer to assume that something is going to be more offensive than not, because it's easier on everyone to try and prevent something rather than to clean it up after the fact, after people have taken things personally and earned themselves actual punishments.

I guess yeah, but I don't think that comment was personal. Seemed quite light hearted and it is called Music Banter you know? But some people would be offended by it I guess, people just need to hang loose more.

With so many varied perspectives, the most effective approach is usually a general one.
I would expect that line of reasoning to be followed before I'd expect that we'd get anything done holding a tribunal for every scenario.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of humor/insulting someone. I don't think it's a big deal if someone can't detect sarcasm.

That's basically what I was trying to get at. After reading it a couple of times though it sounds like a feeble attempt :o:. GB brought it to my attention though.

They seem down right neighboorly...Im thinking they would definatley be compassionate to your needs if you ever needed a favor. Just the kind of vibe I was getting from watching the video..... In all seriousness though I posted earlier there has to be some other issue that sparked this dispute. Its almost unfathomable to think anyones that heartless in the world.

djchameleon 02-03-2011 07:00 AM

see that's why I don't watch the news **** the media. there is definitely more to the story and they just want to create sympathy for the little girl because she's dying but there HAS to be more to the story than they are telling us. I don't think that they are just being down right mean for the hell of it. it seems like a long feud of disputes because they don't like each other. I'm sure the little's girl family has been being *******s to those neighbors for a looong time.

Even still, mocking dead people or terminally ill kids is about as low as you can go no matter what your reasons for doing so are.

True but I still would like to know the full story not some half ass reporting like in that video.
