Thanks guys. The place seems so quiet without him (even though I have two other cats he was the troublemaker) and everything I see reminds me he's no longer here. This will take some time getting over.

Ritchie passed away at approx 16:45 today. He had been blind for three weeks but had not adapted well at all, and we felt the kindest thing was to end it for him. I have not cried so much in years; at one point I really thought someone was tearing my heart out of my chest (I could feel the pressure as it moved) and at another I felt sure my eyeballs had popped out from crying.

Ritchie died peacefully in my arms and was the sort of character nobody who met him will ever forget. He spoke: he said things like "I want to go out", "Oh man!" "Rain!" and "Aw come on!" He was such a sweet little guy, and I'll miss him more than he will ever realise. It hurt so much to end his life, but I don't regret it. He had nothing left to look forward to, and now at least he's at peace.

So long, little guy: I'll never forget you if I live to be a hundred.
:(

Oh no how sad. :( RIP little kitty. :( I know whenever my cat goes I'll be devastated.

Again, so sorry.

We've had the same vet for the 20 years we've been out here and have had to put down 2 cats in that time. They are incredibly compassionate about it. While I'm hugging the cat and the doctor is giving the meds, the assistant rubbed my back the entire time.

Once it was over they both said they were sorry and to take all the time I needed and then left me alone in the room with a small blanket to cover them before I left.

And then days later we get a condolence card in the mail signed by the staff. Super nice touch.

RIP Nelsan Ellis who played Lafayette on True Blood, died of apparent heart failure at 39.

Oh wow. That sucks! His character was the one interesting character in a rather dull TV show.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 07-09-2017 05:14 AM

RIP. he was, as already stated, far and above the best part of that show. he was quite a talented actor. he was really good in the Stanford Prison Experiment as well.

Sorry about that Trollheart.

My longtime cat was taken with a recurring urinary tract blockage, it would go on the box and just writhe in agony.

Ah that's terrible. :( Ritchie had one of those, but they were able to operate on him and he was right as rain afterwards, though I had to buy him a special catfood that he was on for the rest of his life. I'm a bloody expert in UTIs now since my sister tends to get them so often. Seem to be hella painful. Hope you didn't leave it too long before ending his pain, which I'm sure you didn't.

Isn't it really annoying when the sun is shining but there are black clouds of sorrow in your heart? You kind of want it to be raining, as if the weather is in sympathy with you. Same when you go to a funeral and it's sunny - where the hell is the pouring rain I was promised??
