But seriously, he had a nasty and cruel side? Damn.

I was referring to his depiction of little people in Cat's cradle which was downright offensive, his rather sexist treatment of women pre-Breakfast of champions, the khmm, liberal use of the n-word in BoC (which I would argue had a point but would definitely NOT pass muster today). Etc.

All writing is a product of its time; you can't beat people up for writing what was acceptable (whether right or wrong) at the time but isn't now. What about Dickens? Did he treat Jews badly?
