I'm not sure I can take much more of this! First Spock, now Terry! I was fast-forwarding through the news and then the article came on about his death. I rewound, hoping it wasn't what it looked like and when the anchor said he had died I literally shouted NO!!! at the TV! I loved his books from the very first time I came across The colour of magic and fell in love with the Discworld. In recent years his work didn't quite impress me as much, but then, look at what he was struggling with.

A sad, sad loss and another bit of magic gone from the world.
Godspeed, Sir Terry. You'll never be forgotten.

Was gonna post the same but figured it should come from a veteran rather than a rookie.

Okay... the bit about it being 2011 was not posted originally. I only saw the first line, assumed it was very recently, like why would you post your mother had died four years ago, now?

Either way, her pain is fresher than mine, as my ma died in 1991.
Ah, Mother's Day! Don't I just love it. A trip to the cemetery... :(

Edit: Sorry I see it was mentioned; I just didn't read it through. My bad.

Because she craves attention.

What's wrong with sharing the fact that her mother passed? 4 days, or 4 years it doesn't seem to matter. By saying she craves attention, you're making her feel as though she can't vent to us about her emotions that are obviously still voided because of the passing of her mother.

You not only have my sympathy, but my empathy as well Dulce.

Chula Vista 03-16-2015 12:19 PM

Whoa.

My grandfather and best friend in the entire world died in 1976. Still hurts.

Trollheart 03-16-2015 03:32 PM

I think the problem is the way it was worded originally, made it look like it had happened recently, which was how I took it. If that wasn't intended (and I'm not saying it was) then something like "it's been four years since my mum died" or something would have avoided any confusion.

Or I could just have registered what I was reading. But still, the initial post made it look like It was a recent event. Doesn't mean she doesn't deserve sympathy of course, but it's kind of a little like me posting my mother died in 1991. Like, why bring that up now, is what I'm asking? I can be sure that if I posted "My mother died" I'd have a flood of sympathy from people who would have perhaps thought I meant it had only just happened, but I would not do that.
