I'm only a little bit country. When I say outlaw, I don't mean the sub-genre. I'm talking about a woman who told those who said she could only sing love songs glorifying men and the cowboy way (as such) to go **** themselves and stood up for women's rights. Not a Crystal Gayle or even a Dolly, but a ****ing Loretta. Doubt there was, or ever will be, another like her. Stand by your man? Yeah, with a ****ing shotgun in case he thinks of straying, and with his balls in your hand if he makes a false move.

I can't say I was really deep into Loretta Lynn as I'm not really a country music person either but she wasn't afraid to push the envelope. I mean, think about it; who could have gotten away with a song like The Pill in the 1970s, especially in the conservative world of country?

That's what I mean. I'm no aficionado of her music either, but I was writing something about Crystal Gayle last week and I did some research to back up my point that men rule country music and the women just say yes sir thanks for letting me be in your club now can I get you a beef sandwich? I checked out Lynn and one of her songs is called "You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)"! Now that's a statement right there. Then there's "Don't Come Home a-Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)", and if that ain't enough for ya, how about (deep breath) "Lyin', Cheatin', Woman Chasin', Honky Tonkin', Whiskey Drinkin' You"?

Her relationship with her irl philandering husband doesn't exactly scream feminist to me. More rowdiest bitch at the trailer park.

I didn't say she was a feminist.

Wiki:

While a recognized "advocate for ordinary women", Lynn often criticized upper-class feminism for ignoring the needs and concerns of working-class women.[4] She once stated, "I'm not a big fan of women's liberation, but maybe it will help women stand up for the respect they're due."

Yeah she's a complicated lady. And I think my favorite thing about getting like 14 songs banned from radio is the theory that is was entirely intentional for the sake of publicity, which would kind of make her like a secret shock rocker. And a boss bitch.

So I'll throw one back to my fav country gal and one of the best and rowdiest songs of all-time. Absolutely no one could do fun country pop like Loretta.

Robbie Coltrane, star of Cracker and apparently Hagrid in Harry Potter, dead at 72. What a loss.

RIP big guy

He was a core member of The Comic Strip Presents, a group of "alternative" comedians who did a series of short comedy films on Channel 4 in the 1980s and onwards. And it's there that his wit and range and rebelliousness really shine through imo.

This is a spoof of 70s war films
