There's no harm in me testing that, and I think she's a bit obsessive about this sort of thing and may lose patience or decide I'm not interested in her, and move on, which would be disastrous.

I just want to say, those of you making personal judgments of someone because of dark comedy should really ease off. Take it for what it is, and that's just a bit of humor. You shouldn't be expected to find it tasteful, because that's the nature of dark comedy. However, there's a difference between humor and hate. If he really condones rape, that's a different issue, but can we not make comedy revolving around death, tragedy, illness or traumatic experiences? I personally didn't find it funny, but not because of how serious the content is, but because it wasn't very witty.

That's all just my opinion, though.
All I'll say is that this is referring to someone I really care about, and the mention of something like that was horrible for me at least. It's also because on this forum, Duce is one of the people I'm most in touch with and it hurt me a bit coming from him.
Usually I couldn't care less what someone on the internet thought or said about my relationships, but when it comes from someone you know even vaguely, it becomes something I'm affected by.

I wouldn't overthink it, ask her on a date. You can do that.

I thought it was really tasteless and unfunny as well.

It was a joke, let's not demonize anyone because of it. Anyone who watches and enjoys South Park or George Carlin has heard of and probably laughed at dark comedy.

I understand that when you think about it seriously it's vile, but humor is not meant to be thought about in a serious manner.

So, rape shouldn't be thought of in a serious manner? How about if instead of a rape joke, it was about someone getting lynched? Or, if you really can't catch onto the kewl empathy thing, how about if your mother or sister was raped, would you still think those jokes are funny? How about if YOU were raped? What if you had children, and Il Douche was making comments about how he finds them sexually attractive? Would you be able to pass that off as a joke?

I've been sexually assaulted twice. You're right, it's not something you'll soon forget, and you can bet if someone here legitimately thought rape wasn't a big deal, that I'd be the first person to tell them how wrong they are.

I understand the seriousness of rape, but this was intended as humor.

This is my opinion too. I personally didn't find it particularly clever or funny, but I won't have a double standard of turning my nose up at a rape joke when I certainly don't at jokes about murder, suicide, deaths in the family, domestic abuse, racism, genocide, God, 9/11, the holocaust, Joseph Kony or any celebrity that's ever died.

Do I find many of the above jokes tasteless? Sure. But if something makes me laugh then it makes me laugh, and I'm not going to stifle because the reality of these events were/are tragities. I don't confuse reality with humor. Great humor is the exaggeration of reality, not the advocation of a particular ideal.

You're free to find Duce's comment distasful and unfunny, I did. That doesn't mean he's some kind of subhuman monster that should make you sick.

Umm, just because you have experience with sexual assault, does not mean you speak for all victims, and just because YOU find it humourous, doesn't mean EVERYONE does.

None of the above jokes are funny, except for maybe God jokes because fictional characters are fair game. The ones about domestic abuse, racism, genocide, and the holocaust are pretty awful as well because they make light of subjects that shouldn't be taken lightly, and YES when you make jokes about them, they are taken lightly. Sure, you may say to yourself "But I would never lynch someone/gas someone/beat my wife whatever the hell, but this is such an egocentric view of a touchy subject. You may not do those things or approve of those things, but someone in your audience may begin to lack the proper reverence for them. I mean, especially domestic abuse and rape, what with the plethora of "get in the kitchen" jokes that seem to form a camaraderie of misogynistic *******s who don't even know they're woman haters. Or when people see that one graphic of the woman holding a sign saying a percentage of women suffer from domestic violence every year, and it says around it " (the other percentage) didn't need telling twice" or some stupid **** like that. People find this humourous, what the ****? All these kinds of jokes contribute to rape culture, and there is a constant undercurrent of "She asked for it though! she should have given the man what he wanted!" that is extremely unnerving to witness. What's even more disgusting is if a woman speaks out against it, she has no sense of humour or the state of her menstrual cycle is called into question. I mean, really? Someone who uses things like rape and paedophilia to shock ARE subhuman monsters, there is no escaping that at all, gaining laughs or attention at the expense of the suffering of others is utterly repugnant.

When did I ever claim to represent all rape victims? You put your foot in your mouth and assumed that it's never happened to me or anyone I know. Nothing more, nothing less. I'll repeat what I said before and say I didn't find the humor very funny or tasteful, and I don't expect others to find dark humor to be tasteful either. Ever. However, I think it's out of line to make personal judgments about someone because of a distasteful joke.

Jokes don't equate to taking the subject lightly. I've made distasteful jokes about rape, tragedy, death and racism myself, and I don't consider them any less of an issue. It's also extremely hypocritical to say that making fun of God is funny, but the others (especially things like homophobia) aren't. I'm an atheist myself, but people are entitled to their beliefs just as much as a gay person has the right to be gay.
