The Most Annoying Response ...

What's the most annoying response to a text, IM, or email?

Sansa Stark 05-18-2011 06:32 PM

k

Burning Down 05-18-2011 06:33 PM

lol, when used to try and break an awkward silence.

someonecompletelyrandom 05-18-2011 06:36 PM

Added a poll.

Insane Guest 05-18-2011 06:39 PM

k...

with no response at a close second. Just typing lol is really ****ing annoying though.

Yeah, "k" is annoying as hell too. But I just think typing "lol" after something awkward and without typing anything with substance afterwards is such a conversation cop-out.

EvilChuck 05-18-2011 06:54 PM

No response when you've texted someone asking about plans or something is most annoying, thats when you think to send it over and over again, or end up checking your phone non stop which leaves you pretty unproductive. Any other time if someone texts me back 'ok', 'lol' or no reply at all it means the conversation is over, and I dont have to stretch out the conversation even further.

Arya Stark 05-18-2011 06:58 PM

I couldn't decide between "k," "lol," and no response at all.

"k" bothers me because it usually means the person is dismissing you. It's good sometimes, though, like when you're just trying to have a really quick conversation such as making a meeting place clear or checking on the time of rugby practice or... whatever.
"lol" is bothersome because it ends the conversation right there, there's nothing you can say back to that unless you're trying really hard to keep the conversation going.
No response probably bothers me the most of the three because I think too much. There is so much that a lack of response could mean and I never want to overreact but I also don't want to look like an idiot if someone's disrespecting me and I don't notice.
Phew.

Bloozcrooz 05-18-2011 07:23 PM

I really dont worry about any of it. If someone texts me" k" I take that as they are not interested or dont wish to talk about what was being said. Maybe its just the topic at hand and you just need to talk about something else...or just leave it at that. Annoyed by it?..no. If someone gives me a "lol" then either they might actually find the previous statment funny or they dont know what to say. People give fake laughs in real life all the time to comments that are of little meaning or weird. Doesnt always imply they are trying to end the convo...things of this nature are just to minute to waste time letting them really bother you. I try an not make something out of nothing if at all possible. I mean there are bigger things in life to get upset about than things of this nature. The fact that something like texting k or lol annoys people is actually funny in itself. I mean their are bigger things to worry or get upset about in life than this..like for instance...the rapture is about to happen in a couple of days people!!!.....

storymilo 05-18-2011 07:49 PM

wait a really long time, then, "awkward.."

It's especially bad because there's two periods.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-18-2011 09:50 PM

Saying just k is freaking rude.

Insane Guest 05-18-2011 09:54 PM

Getting a :P or a xD is just as bad as getting an lol. I still don't understand the use of smileys in text messages.

one of my best friends responds to every single text or facebook post by a girl with 'lol' added at the end. He justified it to me once but it made no sense. It aggravates me even on his own facebook seeing a girl comment and him add unnecessary 'lols'.

I am most annoyed by the 'ok...' It's always from girls and pisses me off. I usually don't respond because it's obvious they are irritated by something and nothing i can say would go well. That damn '...' i hate that shit.

It's the same story with me. I don't know if they don't wanna talk, they don't have their phone around, or they just want to ignore me. OR, of course, something could be desperately wrong. Just say SOMETHING.

someonecompletelyrandom 05-19-2011 12:18 AM

I am kind of guilty of giving no response. Mostly because I have a lot of pestery friends :D

CanwllCorfe 05-19-2011 12:23 AM

Oh I do sometimes as well. Like if it's someone who texts all the time for no reason, or if it's a stupid question. Or if I really don't want to talk to them. I'm the only one out of all my friends who thinks far too much about meaningless stuff, so I know they could all care less. They have other friends. They'll be okay.

s_k 05-19-2011 02:30 AM

"You just sent me a text but I accidentally deleted it, could you send it to me again?"

And then sending it again.
And then nothing.
Is REALLY annoying.

The Virgin 05-19-2011 04:00 AM

the most annoying response is when someone responded with a senseless reply.

Howard the Duck 05-19-2011 07:09 AM

k, ic or yup

FRED HALE SR. 05-19-2011 09:24 AM

I've started just calling people again. If someone tries to text i call them right back. I don't have alot of time to text back and forth meaningless ****. If they don't pick up the phone then i ignore their text the rest of the day.

a call response for every text? sounds very costly.

Not with verizon. The majority of my friends and family have verizon i can call them for free.

The Virgin 05-19-2011 09:30 AM

good for you. here in the Philippines, a text costs just 1 peso. but a single call costs almost 8 pesos per minute. imagine if you talk for 15 minutes, over 100 pesos!!!! too costly.

I agree with most of what you said there.

how is "k" rude? it's just a short version of okay. I think most of the responses in this thread is dealing with people over thinking simple shit

I'm guilty of over thinking as well but I'm trying to stop doing it so much.

The most annoying text I get is when someone sends a text and while I'm in the middle of responding they call me. WTF why didn't you just call me in the first place or at least be patient enough to wait for my reply. So the message I spent time typing up ends up just disappearing into the open void because on my phone it doesn't even save to drafts when a phone call comes in.

i wouldn't say it's rude, it's just lazy half-assed texting, at least post a proper reply to what I just texted

k is just a short version for ok.

If you send a text saying we will be meeting at the movies at 9pm then I think it's perfectly fine to say "k" or even "ok" to acknowledge that I understand and will follow through with the plan.

i expect "meet at which place" etc or "it's gonna be fun", not just "k"

I guess i don't find a problem with it either way. I think my problem usually stems from the fact that i can have a two minute conversation and cover about fifteen texts and save myself the hassle of constantly texting back and forth. I think texting should be done by someone who doesn't want to be rude when in a group and wants to leave a brief message for another person. Some people have no texting edicate however and will text incessantly, that would be my only problem with texting in general.

Phantom Limb 05-19-2011 10:30 AM

i dont think it's that bad when someone says "k" or "yeah" or something like that. The thing that really gets on my nerves is when I just get "no". i mean damn, something about that response just makes me angry.

hmm getting angry when someone responds "no" probably means you aren't comfortable with rejection.

James 05-19-2011 10:35 AM

Texts have to have smileys or kisses for me if they are blunt or else I get the wrong idea and think there is a reason for them being dry.
