WWE receives highest award
December 8, 2006

World Wrestling Entertainment received the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Public Service Award today. The award was presented to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and dozens of WWE Superstars as they entertained the troops during the company’s 4th annual Tribute to the Troops. Thousands of members of the Combined Forces Coalition cheered the announcement from the Director of Air Force Services, Art Myers.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) distinguished itself by exceptional public service in support of deployed service members in Iraq and Afghanistan. The talented performers and crew of WWE demonstrated their bravery, patriotism, and dedication to serving the men and women of the United States Armed Forces during operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Whether touring the front lines for Armed Forces Entertainment or making individual visits to military installations and injured troops in the United States, their efforts brought needed respite and produced a resounding public outpouring of patriotic sentiment that reached all levels of leadership in the Department of Defense. Their true patriotic spirit and world class support of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines reflect great credit upon WWE and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Mr. McMahon immediately presented the honor to WWE Superstar John Bradshaw Layfield because it was, in Mr. McMahon’s words, JBL’s vision and idea to bring WWE to the troops for the holidays!

Also today General Casey, the Commander of Multinational Forces Iraq, thanked WWE for visiting the front lines and bringing holiday cheer to the troops.

haha its legit. but theyll both (or atleast Heyamn for sure) turn up in TNA very soon. Heyman's still under WWE contract until Jan. 1.
Duh, there hasn't been a Nitro for quite some time! Obviously that was W.C.W.It still had to be on the list though, because it WAS more entertaining that the "new" E.C.W. will ever be.I had some good times watching decent matches from Nitro back then...
...not like I think W.C.W. should come back or anything, but you get the idea.T.N.A. is alright, but I think it's a little more overhyped than it deserves credit for at this point. It's great that they got some legendary wrestlers like Kurt Angle, Christian and Sting, but I still think they should acquire more (of the) upper echelon wrestlers and earn more respect thru time.I guess they're on their way though, so we'll see how good T.N.A. will be over time.

I always get a laugh out of those people that are against wrestling and say "I won't let my kids pay any attention to the W.W.F."I always comment back by saying "If you won't let your kids check out the W.W.F., then you must be crazy or something! Why would you ever turn your kid away from those lovely, gentle animals?Haven't you took your child to the zoo yet?"They are simply still stuck back in time, which obviously proves them as an ignorant hypocrite to any wrestling going on at the present time.

yeah, Nitro did beat Raw in the ratings for nearly 2 years straight, and at a point WCW nearly bought out Vince. and WCW was wayyyyyyy better than this new "ECW". And how is TNA overhyped? Every "hype" hat is spouted, they live up to and exceed. Youre not gonna find wrestling like that anywhere else in the US.

At Sunday's TNA Turnig Point PPV, Abyss successfully defended his NWA World Title against Christian Cage and Sting. And Samoa Joe beat Kurt Angle in their rematch. Since Angle/Joe have 1 victory apiece over the other, I smell another reamtch to settle the score. And that "VKM" sh*t is getting to be just as annoying as DX, if not worse.

Well, if you're interested, there is a d.v.d. out on those "wars."I believe the d.v.d.'s called the "Monday Night Wars" or something like that.I haven't seen it all, but I'm sure it'll be atleast somewhat interesting going back in time.

You can stand by T.N.A. still if ya like, I don't mind.I just think that T.N.A. is good and working its way up, ya know? They're not quite up where they'd be able to surpass the W.W.E. yet, ya see?Angle brings them closer though. The fact that they have both Angle and Christian really draw me closer to the brand each time.Along with the recent dullness of the W.W.E., I have become more interested in T.N.A., although T.N.A. just isn't there yet.Give it time and then we'll see.

yeah, Ive seen "Monday Night Wars". it was good, but it only told WWE's side of the story. Eric Bischoff has a new book out called "Controversy Creates Cash" which tells his side of the story. And once TNA Impact moves to 2 hours they will bring in more, bigger name talent and start to be a real threat to the WWE empire.

Yeah, I know about the book, but I don't think I'd be interested enough in it to read it all, ya know?Kinda like playboy in a way...
...you know, with playboy, all you really care about is the pictures and don't wanna waste so much time reading useless jibber jabber.

If T.N.A. does manage to "steal" some of W.W.E.'s greats or find some on their own, T.N.A. will surely be better than they are now, but I still don't think that they are anywhere close enough to surpassing the W.W.E.

I'm not totally ruling you out, I'm just saying let's wait and see if it could happen.Trust me, I'm always looking for better competition, because that's the best way they improve their product and that's good for us fans.

IMO TNA needs to have like a CZW or ROH invasion or something (kinda like the ECW invasion of Raw in the mid 90's). And since most of TNA's wrestlers have open contracts, and do shows for ROH and other indy promotions as well, a few of them could "jump ship". It would make for great television, as well as showcasing good indy talent.
