I'm a Swiss Army Knife.

CAD Manager
Senior Designer
IT Manager
Marketing Director

We make fun houses for Fire training.

5 year plan - I've been doing this since 1991, and have worked for some major companies in the industry, so I plan on branching out on my own and starting my own company at some point but who knows, the guitar/band thing may take off some day.

5 years is not that long at all, actually. I finished high school 5 years ago but it only seems like yesterday.

No one is stopping you from making a 2 year plan to have a shorter term goal or even a 10 year plan to have something longer than that.

I don't feel comfortable making plans because my life has been derailed from all the plans I originally had and I just go with the flow and change up things as they come along.

Like my uncle always says: "Life happens while you are busy making plans."

That's not to say that I don't have any goals that I would like to shoot for but I just have a feeling they are going to end up getting crushed and I'm going to end in a different direction. I guess it's nice for some of you that have had pretty stable lives were everything you planned to do has come to fruition.

What kind of goals do you have that you think will get squashed and prevented from achieving?

I'm just basing it off of my previous track record.

I went into the military but wasn't able to complete my time and training there. So I have some knowledge about being an electronics technician but not enough to be certified. My 6 years that I signed up for was cut short.

I went to college for accounting and I ended up having to drop out to take care of my mother. I racked up the debt and have to pay that off before I can go back to the same school and finish up. I'm one semester away from my associates degree with that. I'm not even sure I want to use it and go further with becoming an accountant. My plan was to get my Masters and then become a CPA but I don't know. I also wanted to be a production accountant for films at one point in time but that just took a back seat.

I'm currently writing but I don't feel like my writing skills are strong at the moment but I'd like to self publish my poetry/short stories and once I complete my novel that I've been working on for years I'd like to send that off to a publishing company.

I'm also studying on my own about the stock market and I would love to invest and dabble in that for a bit but who knows what tomorrow will bring and what else I might get into.

I feel like a failure at life because I haven't really completed anything that I have started and I've started so much.

Great goals!
Obviously you realize that most of them are well within your control to a degree. I would suggest that you prioritize them and work on the one that will be most attainable and also act as a springboard to other goals, whether that's a monetary springboard or not.
However, don't doubt yourself and assume that because you've failed in the past, you will fail in the future. The only way that will become reality is if you make that assumption. Self-fulfilling prophecy and all. Just focus on one thing, take it a step at a time, and let it get you to where you want to ultimately be.
From what you've said, there is very little that is holding you back other than yourself.
