Who will join me in abstaining from the Lounge for one whole month of pure music discussion? The point of this thread is to encourage the community to revive the intense music debate and discussion that dominated the forum 2 or 3 years ago. While there's nothing wrong with the Lounge, going out of your comfort zone or reigniting your interest in music discussion during May... Ahem.. may ... just kickstart the livelihood of this place once again.

I won't abstain as I spend most of my time in the music forums, but its a good idea.

If I do this, I'm going to be making a lot of threads. To be honest, there aren't many that I like. And the ones I do like get ignored.

I'm up for this, the lounge banter is lacking at the moment.

Meh. I like the lounge for when i'm not in the mood for musical conversation. So I probably won't be participating in this. However, it's a pretty good idea for those that stick around in the lounge a lot. That's just a general statement, i'm not pointing fingers at anybody.

I don't really post in here much anyways.

Actually I doubt this thing will become a bandwagon. It's been up for almost a full day and we're barely tipping a page worth of posts. Had I opened a thread called "What's your nastiest fart?" or "God doesn't exist and religion is bad also vegetarians are good" it would have been swarmed with replies :D

I will. No Lounge posts for May.

Someone go let them know they're allowed to bash toddlers full-bore until June.

No probably not. Other people wanted to rip my eyes out over that thread, too.

I thought it was pretty clever. Using the thread title against itself.

So I don't think it's possible for me not to post in the lounge. But I will make sure I increase my music contributions by a lot. It's more to do with me not making the time to be popping in music threads etc. I really want to write more reviews!

I will limit my post to "the Saturday 6 pack" (I really enjoy the questions as well as getting insight into everybody's great personalities) and "what are you drinking" (where else can I one up Fred with my superior taste in beer :). )

You could include the shoutbox in this as well. As some of the hangers-on in there seem to contribute next to nothing to the music forums. Not mentioning anyone in particular.

^ I tend to go in there when the forum is dead, otherwise I don't spend more than a half hour in there. Just some casual banter. But it can get obnoxious pretty quickly.

I don't know, we have some good music conversations in there, too. It's almost like a free for all. No particular thread needed, but some good banter.

Anyway, this is all optional, so no one HAS to stay out of the shoutbox, and I get that. But maybe more people can come into the shoutbox and direct the conversation to their musical values and views.

I'll second this in particular. I was discussing The Decemberists and the creation of my country thread earlier. It was nice.

I use the shoutbox myself once in a blue moon and it is good for a quick chat. But I think there might be some more interesting music threads around here if people spent less time in there.

I don't think so. It's not like I can't multi-task.
I'm all up in the threads, trying to read them and everything, but there's just nothing going on sometimes.

I'm in! But I reserve the right to make at least one post in the Lounge when my five year MB-versary rolls around.

I find it amusing that people are being encouraged to post in a thread in the Lounge that is asking people not to post in the Lounge. Good idea, but still. :laughing:

The shoutbox is excellent. It serves a purpose. Most of the people I have become close with in my time here was from using the shoutbox back in my more active days.

Yeah, I have loved using the shoutbox since recently discovering it.

I forgot to mention I will try much harder to contribute in the music forums but I'm not signing up for this because nobody here listens to the same style of music as me, which means I'm usually posting to a brick wall or some noob that will reply 7months down the line.

As for the shoutbox– I don't see any reason to restrict it. The shouty crowd most likely won't be participating anyway, and as was stated some good music conversations are had in there.

I love the shoutbox. Not in there as often as I used to be, but I've had some really great conversations in there!

I think the only decent conversation I've ever had in there was with you. :laughing:

I'll take part but I still need to run the writing competition. Plus my exams are all in may so I wont be on here much anyway!

I remember that conversation taking place. Can't actually remember the details of the conversation. All I know is that it happened late at night and I had way too much to drink :laughing:

Also, it was gloriously erased with the rest of the shoutbox!

That's not a negative thing, I'm just saying 99% of the times I've gone in there no one's active.

Okay, that makes sense. Must have happened sometime last year then, as I was writing a paper for my Medieval music history class. I must have also been working on it at the same time too, because I don't normally drink that late into the night unless I'm doing homework :laughing:

I remember a discussion about web development and HTML in the shoutbox. There are some very smart people on this forum that really should post more.
