How easy is it to do that? I've been meaning to do it on my Nexus 4 but it does seem intimidating getting my head round it all.

Phone isn't rooted btw.

Rooting your phone can be easy if you're willing to pay and a little more challenging if you want to do it for free.

Personally I value my time and would have had to shell out money for an SD card anyways so I used OneClickRoot which is $30 for a license, but it really is as easy as the title would imply. Word of warning though if you do use it, disable or uninstall your antivirus because you will get a false positive and then it will fail on you.

Also it should be noted that rooting your phone does void the warranty so do so at your own risk. This is a pretty recent Youtube video that is pretty thorough so you can follow it.

I don't have a mobile phone. I'm oldschool.

Bad enough that people ring me in me house, don't want that crap happening when I'm outside too. Yet to hear anyone say something that sounds as beautiful as a hooting owl or nightingale. If that changes I might get one. Until then... no.

Rooting is just a shorthand term for giving yourself root access for a device running an Android Operating System, similar to "Jailbreaking" an iPhone. Basically it opens up the OS to user tinkering.
