I don't know if this totally applies to the intent of the OP, but I've realized somewhat recently that my existence is the direct result of two wars. If my mother's father's family hadn't fled Spain during the Spanish Civil War, my grandfather would never have ended up in the US and would never have met my grandmother. And if World War II had never happened, my father's parents would never have worked together in the war bonds office where they met.

Yeah that pretty much fits in Jansz. Mind you, I guess everyone could say that if their father hadn't met their mother they wouldn't be here, but for your existence to hinge around two such huge world events is really quite impressive.

Along the same lines as Jans. My grandparents were effect by the influenza. My paternal grandfather lost his father and my maternal grandfather lost his mother and father and a brother and sister because of the flu. That changed each of their lives.

I don't know if my great-grandparent passed during the Pandemic of 1918/19 or not. But I imagine that pandemic being so large and widespread that it would be like a butterfly effect, an even that would effect the lives of those who live during that time and then subsequently the live of the survivors and their children etc etc.

Quote:
The influenza pandemic of 1918-1919 killed more people than the Great War, known today as World War I (WWI), at somewhere between 20 and 40 million people. It has been cited as the most devastating epidemic in recorded world history. More people died of influenza in a single year than in four-years of the Black Death Bubonic Plague from 1347 to 1351. Known as "Spanish Flu" or "La Grippe" the influenza of 1918-1919 The 1918 Influenza Pandemic

In an alternate universe I'd do everything right and the people I love would love me in return and I wouldn't seem like such an @$$hole to everyone I know.

Thank you for reminding me how screwed up my life is with this alternate reality crap!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're a lovely person.

When I was 5 years old, my dad took me to a monster truck show and it would be my first one. I had been to motorcycle shows and the like, so I was accustomed to this type of entertainment. However, I got really upset at the show and started crying (I can't recall why), asking my dad to leave. This was totally out of character for me since I was usually calm, complacent, and loved these types of events.

My dad just told me to calm down at first, but I was persistent and we ended up leaving about thirty minutes into the show. He was incredibly upset because money was tight at the time and he wanted to see the rest of the show as well. The next day, my dad read in the newspaper that two people had been killed at the show when one of the monster trucks flipped into the stands, right in the area where we were sitting.

One of the few times I acted like a little bitch, and it ended up saving my life. In an alternate universe, I could've enjoyed the show like I usually did and died or been seriously injured.

Wouldn't be cool if we were constantly interacting with alternate versions of ourselves in alternate realities but didn't even notice or realise it. Imagine if these interactions decided how we lived our day, or what we chose to eat, what side of the road we walked on.
