Your favourite smell(s)?
 

Weird question perhaps, but it struck me as I was going into Tescos that one of the most pleasant and welcoming smells for me is fresh bread baking. There's just something so homely and warm about it, and it always puts me in a good mood.

Then there's aviation fuel. That goes back to when I was a kid, and as a treat (cos we lived near it) we would often get taken to the airport to watch the planes. And this was back when you could actually stand outside and breathe the fumes in, before all this security stuff later meant you had to watch through thick glass windows! Then when I became a planespotter in the 80s, that smell was part of my life for about five years.

And finally, coffee. I hate coffee, but even I have to admit the smell of freshly roasting coffee is a lovely welcoming smell.

So, anyone?

My own farts.

Flowers. I'm an amateur botanist in my free time. They die half the time but its fun.

Rainforest. I love the kind of damp earth smell you get walking through rainforest.

I'm pretty conscious of smells generally. My wife thought I was crazy when I said I could smell ants once but they're actually pretty pungent. Not a fan of many perfumes either. I feel like I'm sniffing petrol or something. I like sandalwood. I like when the jasmine is flowering in the back yard.

Aside from the obvious classics like cut grass and petrol:

- The air after it's rained in spring/summer and you can smell the trees and plants
- The air when it's roasting hot and people are having barbecues
- A girl's hair when you're cuddling them
- Beer in pub beer gardens in hot weather
- This cream stuff Soap and Glory Smoothie Star and 8482 Body Lotion 500ml - Boots , bought some for my sister then ended up buying some for myself :cool:
- Opening a CD and giving the booklet a sniff
- Concourses in football stadiums and you can smell the balti pies cooking :cool:

Too many perfumes to mention as well.

I love the smell of booklets and discs when you open a new package. Whether it be video games, dvds, blu-rays anything.

Anything that has a ting of a citrus scent to it does it for me.

I've always hated to smell of rain though especially on a hot day. I think it's most likely in combination with the asphalt but yuck so gross.'

Coffee and Cigs combined need to stay away from my nostrils. :nono:

The office I work in over the summer (and hopefully into the fall!) is situated on airport property here, fairly close to the runways, so jet fuel is a regular odour outside, especially in the morning and in the early evening when the jets are being refuelled. I got used to it.

But my parents' house is right in the flightpath of jets that go to the airport, so the SOUND of airplanes will always remind me of home. One flies over about every 3 minutes.

No wonder why you've never sent me any flowers :mad:

My favourite smell is that smell in the air right after it rains. Wet asphalt, wet soil... it's so refreshing to me.

you see when you've not washed in a day, or two...and that sweet musky smell of your balls. that's a good smell.

Forgot this one as well, tinned dog food. Smells lovely, I used to want to eat it as a child. Never did though.

Peppermint, pine, grape perfume, grape candy, vacuumed carpet, wet and wooden flatwash brush, plumeria, smoking birthday candles, vanilla frosting, brand new book, salty (slightly pork smelling) cat skin, cedar, rain, fresh newsprint ink, wood burning stoves, bubble gum, chocolate, Neosporin, carved pumpkin, burnt pumpkin, Coca Cola, wet stamps or envelope seals, vanilla extract, almond extract, bar soap on human skin, fried red potatoes, the bread aisle, colored dye on thread, etc...
