Gotta love it.
I ended up spending $129.88 on a boat-load of records in the past 45 minutes.
Do any of you care?




Not at all.

Vinyl is a waste of money.

poor quality
poor longevity
poor everything

there is nothing "hip" about vinyl. wait for a cd. or something.

Have you heard it? Vinyl is pure music, You might get pops and clicks, but just put a penny on the stylus.

I do agree that records have become very trendy(hence this thread),I think too many people listen to it because its hip. Burt who am I to tell you what musical format is or isnt "cool"? Cds certainly have certain advantages, but I do love my records. Plus theres lots of stuff that won't be put onto cd so you have no option but to buy it on record. Each has its own distinct advantages and disadvanteges for instance

Many recordings were meant to be played on records because records will autimaticly play diffrently than a cd, so even whe the original recording is re-mastered it wont sound as good as it did on record.

LOTS of stuff on records is unheard but wonderful and will most likely never be remade anywhere. You candiscover lots of cool music for relativly cheap by searching second hand shops.

Record players are fairly simple in contrast to the modern stereo which make them an easier repair for most people, and are also relativly affordable when bought second hand.

Records allow for Much more creative packaging and allow a musiciaan to express the tone of there music through there artwork and packaging as well as the music.

Records sound just as good as cd's when first played. IMO Records sound much much crisper and warmer when played on the right ewquipment in contrast to cdds which sound more sharp and distiinct.

Records and cds cost about the same to make yet cds are often sold for much more than records.

Records collectiong is a fun hobby, pressing info and the such are fun to check and see when what was done.

CDs begin to deteriorate and poorly made discs will literally begin to fall apart.

Portable, easy to bring with you and play anywhere from your car to your walkman. Records arre obviously a less convnenit medium for listening to music. You even have to get up and flip the record half way through!

Longevity, A cd can hold up to 80 minuites of music without compromising sound quality, while a record even with the most modern microgrooves starts to lose qualty when around 30 minuites are put on each side. Max capacity being around 40 min. per side oon a 12 in. record.

Records are more seseptable to getting scratched and dusty because of there size.

Audio quality on a record will go down because of wear from the needle by the 8th time you play the record. That means even the records you listen to least will still lose quality.

Although a record player is very simple in operation they have many more parts that can be broken and need replacement i.e. belts, motors, stylus, tone arms, speed varaibles, etc

Records, particularly shellac 78s, are more likely to break due to there size and material than cds.

A penny on the stylus will help eliminate certain scratches pops and clicks, abut at the same time will put additional weight on the records and cause more wear over time. A easy solution I haver found to this is to take a pop bottle top and tape it upside down so it acts a s a dish in which you can add or remove weight. This is all saying that you dont have a bui;t in counterweight though.

Also what you listen to can determine what format is best. For instance a full length album with deep loud bass hits is going to play much better on cd because records loose quality with more bass and grooves need to be cut wider there for making the whole album more difficult to fit onto one recording when there is lots of loud bass. So you have to compromis for a shorter album, or a album with compromised fidelity. Unless you package the album as a double LP.
