Beauty Life-Hacks

I know a lot of beauty life hacks. I know this really doesn't have anything to do with music so if nobody's interested, just use your special powers and close the thread. I do think I could teach you guys a few things (not that you're ugly or anything. Well, not all of you. lol.)

Growing out your hair
Over the course of my high school career, I went from short brown highlighted hair (cringe), to a black shoulder length bob (cringe), to blonde and fried, to pink and fried, to healthy blonde that's a few inches from my goal length of the bottom of my ribcage. Growing my hair out and keeping it healthy was a very long process and I'm not done yet but I did learn a lot of things.
  • Take vitamins. A multivitamin along with biotin or biosil makes your new hair growing in a lot healthier than it would be otherwise. Biosil did make my new hair healthy and pretty but it also gave me a more armpit and moustache hair than I was used to so be wary of that. DO NOT abuse prenatal vitamins like I did. I don't mean to be crude but you will get constipated and you will hate yourself for it.
  • Baby your hair like it's the most valuable thing in the world. I have learned never to put any weight on my hair anymore. When I lean up against something, I gather all my hair to the front, I pull it back so I don't put any weight on it when I'm sleeping, and I don't let it snag on anything at all. I even get scared when I pull it into a ponytail because if it's too tight, strands come out. Hair is just dead body tissue and if you heat style it or color it, it will be damaged so you'll have to take extra special care with it and be patient.
  • DO NOT GO TO BED WITH WET HAIR. Don't do it, this was my problem for years and years and years. I know wet hair isn't the best look for day but I've trained my hair so that I only have to wash it twice a week. Anyway, if you get a chignon holder or can put your hair in a bun or a braid for day, it takes some of the fug out of going out with wet hair. I bought something from etsy called a Bendy Wand and although I can't find it right now (goddamn messy room), it was the perfect thing to put my hair up in when it was wet and I had to leave the house like a human being. Even putting it into a ponytail and clipping it up makes you look polished and the waves that it comes out in are pretty.
  • If you have really unhealthy hair, hair that you style every day, or bleached hair like me then you should invest in better hair products. I buy organic shampoo, conditioner, and heat protecter from the health food store or from a local beauty school that makes organic stuff. "Okay Tumor, you rich bitch, I have bills to pay. Telephone bills, automo' bills….BILLS!", Well, I'm not really a rich bitch, I just play one on TV. I had to budget out my money to buy better hair stuff. I don't smoke and boys buy all my drinks (lol probably because I have such beautiful hair) so my main money suck was chai lattes. I wanted long, beautiful hair so badly that I quit buying fancy drinks cold turkey and learned to make tea at home. That's how I fund my conditioner habit.
  • Get a no-tangle brush. Just go onto Amazon.com and search no-tangle brush. DO NOT buy them from Michael Mercier or whatever it's called, the one that advertises on TV. It's a scam and they signed me up for some weird coupon thing and they were going to charge me for it. I had to call them 20 times to get them to cancel my order, just buy it on amazon. Mine is the macadamia oil one, it's green and brown and sort of ugly but it detangles my hair better than anything. I would buy this brush again 100 times over. It will glide the tangles out of your hair so slickly and easily. You will not regret buying this brush I promise.
  • When you condition your hair, comb the conditioner through with a wide toothed comb. After you rinse the conditioner out, rinse the comb and get out the tangles. After that, I gently give my hair a going over with my No-Tangle brush (most brushes are terrible for wet hair but I consider this one an exception.) If I blow dry my hair, I use heat protecter.

I can't think of anything else right now. If this sounds like too much work then idk what to tell you, buy a wig.

Which no tangle brush do you have? I've been looking for a good one.

Queen Boo 08-04-2013 02:58 PM

Macadamia Natural Oil No Tangle Styler Brush [Misc.]:Amazon:Beauty
They all seem pretty similar but I bought this one.

how did I miss this thread earlier?

I have a question.

Is it really better to wash your face with cold water? Also I need something different than the grapefruit Neutrogena that I'm using. It's finally working after using it for two weeks but I don't know. Also, do you think I should bother exfoliating?

Scarlett O'Hara 08-04-2013 06:40 PM

Apparently cod liver oil is really good for making your hair long and making it shiny! I'm going to buy some this week so I can make my hair look even better. My length is to my belly button and my goal is to get it to my ass.

I feel like growing my hair out that length just so I can donate it to Locks of Love or Angel Hair or some charity that makes wigs and hairpieces for cancer kids. Locks of Love accepts dyed hair too because then they don't have to dye the wigs if people want that. But the hair's gotta be a foot long, so it will take a couple of years, I think (because I don't want to shave my head completely).

Awww, that's such a sweet idea! I think you're right about growing it out enough so you still look nice. I personally could never shave my head. It's taken me so long to get it the length I like so couldn't manage waiting for it to grow out again.

I know you're trolling but who is she?

When you use oil for hair growth, you're supposed to massage it into your scalp and let it set for a while I guess.

And apparently locks of love just lets the donated hair sit in a warehouse, it's a scam. :( they only make like 2 wigs a year.

djchameleon 08-04-2013 07:44 PM

Did you just skip over my question on purpose or what?

Acne: Acne
This is the kind of stuff I use for acne (although using the lemon juice gave me a burn so be careful).
And I'm lazy so I'm just going to link you the answer to the water thing
Does warm water open your pores and cold water closes them? - Yahoo! Answers
And of course I think you should bother exfoliating, WTF kind of question is that? You don't know me at all. Making a sugar scrub out of sugar and olive oil is a good thing to do but if you're lazy buy St. Ives. DON'T DO IT EVERY DAY. Your skin will be gross. Mine was like sunburn pink all over when I made that mistake.

Hmm...I have EVOO would that work? I'm going to try the exfoliate mixture tonight. I will definitely be getting St. Ives though for the future.

Queen Boo 08-04-2013 09:04 PM

Yes, the sugar is the important part but if you have very oily, acne probe skin, you should mix the sugar with something else. I think I'm gonna go recipe hunting but I think lotion mixed with sugar would probably be good for exfoliating. Don't quote me on that though, it's honestly just a guess.

I'm not trolling. I came across a video of hers where she successfully made herself look like Edward Scissorhands... she's a pro.

I decided to show up to the office tomorrow looking like Edward Scissorhands so thanks.

Queen Boo 08-04-2013 09:47 PM

^^^This is relevant to my interests.
How to make your own exfoliating scrub andrei I found this but I don't know what kind of skin you have other than being somewhat acne prone so I can't help you a lot. Honestly, if I had good health insurance or money I'd get my butt to a dermatologist.
does anybody know what causes acne on the apples of your cheeks? That's the only place I get breakouts now. My t-zone is clearer than the floor at a Nickelback concert.

That's a good idea. I do have money to burn. I will hit up a dermatologist. Actually, if I go to the VA one, I won't even have to pay them. Win Win for me.

Yeah, I have no idea what skin type I have either. Like I remember those commercials with like the number system and I'm like wtf? all of that sounds alien to me. I forget which product it was for but they had a special number system.

I saw one in my teens for acne and they put me on Retinol A which really ****ed up my skin. They warned me it would get worse before it got better but it never got better until I went off it and my skin recovered. I think it was early days when I used it but I wouldn't recommend it.

On becoming beautiful? Get plastic surgery, that's how I plan on becoming beautiful. I wouldn't suggest trying that yourself.
But if you just want to take care of yourself then take vitamins, drink water, exercise, and cleanse and moisturize your skin every day. And if you do all this stuff for the rest of your life then Jesus will let you into heaven. :ar_15s:

While that was a funny read with the tone/language you used. You are giving out bad info on that one. The best way to get rid of dead skin is to do the dry brush rub before you get into the shower. If you do it while in the shower, your pores open up because of all of the moisture. Do the scrub before hopping into the shower. The only time when it's more beneficial to have the skin wet is with your feet and depending on how much dead skin you have built up on it. With your feet you SHOULD soak first then rub that skin off with one of those stones. I can't think of the name at the moment. Pumice stone? maybe.

One thing that I would suggest men look into is plucking your eyebrows. You look so much more polished with nice eyebrows. Ask a girl that cares about you to do it. In my travels, I've found that most men can't do it themselves for some reason. Perhaps they're just too dense.

Good God, don't do it guys. Metrosexual is no way to go through life.

I'd only advocate plucking your brows to ensure that you indeed have two, and not one (like me :( ). Of course it's all personal taste, so if you think that NBA dude or metro eyebrows are sexy go for it.
