Witch hunt or not (which hunt?) I still maintain BD should make the call. If she wants this tracked down then we should do all we can to help her. If she doesn't then we should respect her wishes and drop it.

Not to labour the point, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is someone relatively new, ie wasn't here for last year's Lovedump, and so would not be able to remember the password. I say this because nothing like this happened last year, and if that person was here then there's no reason to assume that that year would have been any different. It's the first time we've had anything like this, ergo, this is a first timer at this.
That being said, anyone who is going to make such nasty remarks would I think be unprepared to wait, and once they got the pw they would go ahead and write their message of hate, so I think again it's fair to assume that the interval between the time they got the password and the time they sent their anti-love dump must be quite short, perhaps only minutes. Therefore, it should be possible to zero in on the arsehole who upset one of our favourite ladies. I rest my case. QED. |
Thanks to everyone who dumped on me, I love you two (unless they were sent by the same person) too.
And Trollheart, assholes are capable of laying dormant, you know. |
^lots of assumptions there, TH. Anybody could have got the password from any of the many members who know it. Also, I vaguely remember the password being broadcast in the plug.dj chat a while back. There's really no way to determine the culprit with the method that you've suggested.

I dunno what the big mystery is. It's perfectly obvious to me.

The person who did it owes Mel an apology. And if they don't I hope the person gets caught and banned or has a ban extension. I think we should move on - dftt I think that kind of person feeds off all this speculation and whodunnit stuff. |
You're probably all right. I didn't know about last year. Dammit. I just hoep whoever did it gets hit by a big truck --- of bad karma.
Mel, you know we all love and respect you so I guess it's like what Vanilla says, "let the haters hate": they ain't got nothing else in their lives. So I should take off the deerstalker now, and put away my pipe? Where's my bubble mixture? ;) |

Most people are taking the bad ones in stride and laughing it off.
I think BD is the only person that took it seriously. |

Yeah, it's easy to say "laugh it off" when it's not you that's being insulted...
I personally don't find it funny in the least. Nor clever. I know you're not saying that, but I don't think it should be laughed off really. |

I got a bad one as well but I don't care about it. I'm not saying she shouldn't be offended it's her prerogative if she chooses to be offended by an insult or not. |

MY HAIRCUT IS NOT THAT BAD, YOU GUYS.
Right? |
I don't think the point of the problem is response, rather it deters the concept of the love machine...

I wasn't sure for a sec, but it turned out to be yarn art on the wall behind you. |
I think anonymous hate mail is pretty offensive, especially in this case when it is masquerading as something friendly. Who does not open a Love Machine message with a little tingle of anticipation? To then receive an insult is like finding a bug in your food - a complete reversal of your expectations. So I fully support BD who is a well-liked contributor here and doesn`t deserve to be treated in such a disrespectul way.
For the guys who just laugh it off, I`d like to say, Well done - you`ve found a way to minimize the sting in these messages. Unfortunately, the expression "laugh it off" might give the impression that sending anonymous hate messages is humorous in some way, but it isn`t - it`s really creepy and always has been. |

Okay, well let's move on. If there is anymore negative messages please let the mods know and we will work out who it is and perhaps change the password.

I only got one this year, and I was a complete dick to them. I hate myself.

At this point, it doesn't matter who the culprit is. I'm beyond the point of caring. I know that not everyone here is my friend. I just want this person to know that the message was not appreciated, no matter how it was supposed to be interpreted (I doubt it was a joke though). It was neither appropriate nor was it funny to me. To the other 3 people who sent me nice messages, thank you. They are much appreciated. |
I know that I am not a horrible person so petty insults about my character won't bother me. Sorry to hear that you are going through the depression and anxiety and it makes sense why you would be hyper sensitive to any sort of negativity.
