Chicxulub is a name that has gained international fame as the site of a genuinely cataclysmic event: in fact, the meteor which fell to earth and destroyed the dinosaurs must surely rate as one of the most significant 5 seconds in the history of our planet:-

Disappointingly, if you go to Chicxulub now, as I have done on several occasions, you won't see any evidence of that spectacular drama. Today there is a shabby fishing-village-come-beach-resort which seems to be dozing through a permanent 24/7 siesta. If you are attentive, you can find an understated monument in the town square, (which you can see again, just left of centre in the second photo) and that's about it.

Say what you like about the Mexicans, but if this was the impact site, they've done a good job of paving it over; it looks as good as new.

They did an excellent job destroying history for money.

At least in the US, they know how to do a proper crater:-

I'm going to be in San Francisco for about a week this summer. I'll be hitting up a show and MOMA, but that's all that I have planned. Any recommendations for cool things to do/good places to eat/good places to trip in public would be nice. 50% chance I'll have a car.

My friend who lived in San Francisco who I was going to visit ended up moving to Ohio so I'll be entertaining myself for the week. Gimme them dope places, hangouts, stores, restaurants, hikes, venues, whatever. I'll definitely be going to Amoeba and I might go to Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz. It'll be my first time btw.

I spent six years in Alcatraz a while back. Overrated.

I don't think I ever posted any photos from my any of my trips. Here's a couple...

Top of Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park.

Payto Lake in Banff National Park, BC, Canada

Me on top of the second highest point in Saskatchewan, which wasn't very high, in Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Pacific Ocean about 15 minutes away from where I stayed in California last year.

Oporto, Portugal

Omaha Beach, Normandy, France

Go to Muir Woods right outside the city. Best place you can see the power of the redwoods.

F*ck fishermans wharf. Not needed. If you do end up going, the only thing that's really cool is the old arcade game museum.

Besides Amoeba, try out 1,2,3,4 Go! Records and Rasputin Records.

Get yourself some f*cking oysters at Hog Head Oyster Bar.

See some music at the Rickshaw Stop. I saw Pile there and it was a cool venue.

I didn't go to SF much while I was out there. Steph will have better ideas.
