You never know with this guy: what might seem like a joke could be something he's actually proposing. Remember, this is the guy who thinks it's okay to **** animals....

I would think that this exchange should make it obvious how seriously he's taking this "debate"...

What about hobos trying to escape the island? Will the drones get them, or will they just be caught and tossed back? It would be inhumane to kill them, but it would also serve as an example.

He's responding to your pushing the thread in a humourous direction, yes, but is that just deflecting attention from the fact that he was serious about this in the first place and now is just saying "Oh no, it's all meant as a joke"?

Enquiring minds want to know...

i thought u were a furry or something like that

anyway nah like i said the ideal/humane solution imo is to get taxpayer money and put these people in nuthouses if they are nuts and rehab centers if they are druggies

but the island scenario is just a more interesting/entertaining alternative

i might consider it if i were made dictator, on a limited scale, not for all the homeless. just enough to get a good homeless version of lost going

If they build permanent shelters on the island, then won't they no longer be considered homeless? Will that mean that they get to back? Or will they just be given the opportunity to own the property in question on the island?

Some people don't want to go to rehab and/or would rather be homeless than in a nuthouse. Honestly, what are these people doing that bothers you so much that you want to extort them from society? All they're doing is asking for pocket change. If you don't want to support their habits, give em some food instead. Or don't. IDK, maybe homeless people are more threatening where you're from but they're pretty chill out here. Leave em alone. Or maybe, idk, actually talk to them and find out who they are instead of judging them by seeing them as a problem.

nah, for me the whole point is to pick people who permanently fail to function in our society and see if they can create their own society and function, if given the opportunity. so if their lifestyle improved then that would be considered a success to me.

well... the people i'm referring to basically just spend their days desperately trying to fuel their crack addiction, doing whatever it takes in order to do so, including a range of activities from begging, prostitution, scamming, breaking and entering, violent/armed robbery, petty theft, etc. maybe they would rather continue this destructive cycle than go into rehab... very often crackheads/addicts will make this kind of irrational decision because... well because they're addicts. and the clinically insane are likewise not generally fit to provide for themselves or to decide what is best for them... for the very same reason that their insanity can be used as a defense in a murder trial. they aren't of sound judgement. i'm actually a bit surprised that any sane adult would object to the idea of institutionalizing the mentally unstable...

but for me it's not so much what they do as what they don't do... which is figure out how to function in our society or provide a stable lifestyle for themselves. once again i'm specifically referring to that portion of the homeless that seem perpetually trapped in this sort of cycle, not 'anyone without a home'

also... i've known a fair share of these people personally. stop assuming that i'm coming from a place of ignorance just cause i paint a less picturesque picture of the homeless than you do. a) i grew up in an area with a fair amount of them; they flee to florida often cause it's a bit easier not to freeze to death, b) i grew up during the 90's crack epidemic, in one of the regions most notorious for crack use c) my dad went to the sobriety programs for the later part of my childhood, and so i went with him usually on the weekends he had me. many of the people he knew from there were on the streets and struggling with addiction to crack and various other drugs

So with a last minute rush of donations my kid reached her goal and her and her BF surprised the dude with his new "home" last night.
