Ultimate Landmark Wars!!

Batty was lamenting a few days ago about how none of the non-music "Wars" threads were surviving, so let's try this one, but before I do: it occurs to me that I may have been doing these threads wrong. I've been pitting two, say, songs against each other, getting a winner and moving on with two more songs, whereas I think it's meant to work like this:

Song A faces off against Song B. Song A wins. Song A is then pitted against Song C. Song A wins again. Song A is pitted against Song D. Song D wins. Now Song D is pitted against Song E... and so on.

Anyway, whatever the truth, this is how this one is gonna go. So whichever landmark wins this round will face the next challenger, but one only, to see which is the better survivor.

So, vote for your favourite!

2nd one by far.

Trollheart 06-02-2015 05:42 PM

Might have expected a Brit not to vote for the French!
I guess all the 'Muricans will make sure La Canyon Grande wins. Bloody world police! ;)

Eiffel Tower = 0
Grand Canyon = 1

fiddler 06-02-2015 05:48 PM

Grand canyon for sure because, y'know, f*ck the French.

DwnWthVwls 06-02-2015 07:06 PM

Canyon.

Anything man-made will always lose to natural wonders as far as I'm concerned.

Chula Vista 06-02-2015 08:03 PM

Grand Canyon all the way.

Janszoon 06-02-2015 08:42 PM

The Eiffel Tower is cool and all, but it isn't grand.

Grand Canyon all the way.

Trollheart 06-03-2015 01:34 PM

Eiffel Tower loses it by a huge margin! 5-1 to the States!

So, who wants to take on the Grand Canyon then? Anyone up for it?

Frownland 06-03-2015 01:37 PM

Okay, let's see the Grand Canyon beat the peaks of Machu Picchu.

Trollheart 06-03-2015 01:40 PM

Oooh! Good one! That's gotta get my vote!

Grand Canyon - 0
Machu wotsit - 1

fiddler 06-03-2015 01:50 PM

Gotta go with the mountains on that one,.

Chula Vista 06-03-2015 02:23 PM

Sticking with the Canyon. But Machu Picchu fascinates the **** out of me.

Trollheart 06-03-2015 02:27 PM

Hmm. Interesting. So currently the tally stands at

Grand Canyon - 1
Machu Pichu - 2

EPOCH6 06-03-2015 02:27 PM

That place looks incredible, first time I've seen that.

Grand Canyon - 1
Machu wotsit - 3

Trollheart 06-03-2015 02:29 PM

Oh, can I assume I add you to the signup sheet Frownland? Anyone else want to be added so you can have a shot when this is finished?

Justthefacts 06-03-2015 03:55 PM

Fuck Macchu Picchu. Bad experience their about 9 years ago. Le Canyon Grande all way.

Frownland 06-03-2015 03:59 PM

Typical Reagan logic. I had a heat stroke at the grand canyon when I was a kid and I don't blame the canyon. Machu Pichu rules and we both know it.

Chula Vista 06-03-2015 04:14 PM

Nah. Piccho is very mysterious and ridiculous ancient craftsmanship.

But this? Beyond epic.

http://images.techhive.com/images/ar...09930-orig.jpg

Plus I think Masada rivals Piccho.

Nothing rivals the Canyon.

Frownland 06-03-2015 04:15 PM

So it's a good matchup then.

Trollheart 06-03-2015 07:24 PM

So currently

Grand Canyon - 2
Machu Pichu - 3

Janszoon 06-03-2015 07:35 PM

Machu Pichu is amazing but it still ain't as grand as the Grand Canyon. Do you all understand how frigging enormous the Grand Canyon is? 227 miles long, over a mile deep, 18 miles wide, plus it's millions of years old.

Grand Canyon - 3
Machu Pichu - 3

DwnWthVwls 06-03-2015 07:39 PM

Canyon.. also, LOL at eiffel tower.

Plankton 06-04-2015 10:46 AM

Grand Canyon - 5
Machu Pichu - 3

Unknown Soldier 06-04-2015 10:59 AM

I've visted Machu Picchu twice and it's the most amazing place I've ever seen. The lost city of the Incas is around 2,500 metres above sea level. The place has a spiritual feel that kind of stays with you forever. It also takes hours to get there in a rickety train which all adds to the experience. Frownland's picture doesn't really demonstrate how extreme it is, for example if you walk to the edge it's a sheer drop on most sides, it's a little city built on a precipice and **** knows how many years it must've taken to build it.

Grand Canyon- 5
Machu Picchu- 4

Man, it's been beaten into the ground and made the Canyon's bitch: do you have to rub it in?

Then again, it is French, so go ahead! :thumb:

The problem is that nearly every landmark in Europe can't compete with what the America's, Africa or Asia has in terms of being spectacular. All Europe's got are landmarks made out of iron, cooper or stone and a couple of crooked or dilapidated buildings.

Frownland 06-04-2015 01:48 PM

Beautiful mountains and ancient civilization remnants>>>some big ass hole.

I take back my previous statement about man made things always losing to natural things.. I don't have an appreciation for modern buildings, but things like machu picchu are amazing. I still voted for the canyon because it's just massive, and overwhelming, but given the choice I think I'd rather visit machu picchu.

The Blue Hole of Belize

What's inside?

Canyon 5
Incas 5

I've been to the Grand Canyon, and while it's a really cool place, it doesn't hold the same fascination as the ruins of an ancient civilization.

For the record, the Grand Canyon, in addition to being awesome, actually also contains the ruins of an ancient civilization.

The Mountains of Mourne, Ireland.
(This is not in any battle (yet), just to illustrate that we have some great scenery and landmarks)

lol.

Basically, the Grand Canyon >>>

Thread has been enlightening.

TH what's the policy on this thread? Can anyone post a landmark?

I'm still sticking with the GC re: Ireland btw.

Well like I said the Mountains were not posted as a war, just an example. And don't forget you have Big Ben, Angel of the North, Tower Bridge, lots of good stuff. These 'Muricans don't have it all sewn up.

Rule is, once the next war is won someone can post against the landmark that comes out victorious though I would prefer if you sign up, so that if this gets any way popular we'll know whose turn it is. But yeah, if you have one just drop it in once this war has been decided. 50/50 and neck and neck at the moment though...

Chula Vista 06-04-2015 07:40 PM

Sign me up.

Sign me up. (I've got an ace up my sleeve that might get the UK a victory.)

Cheers.

I can't think of many that can rival shit like the Grand Canyon. There is some good outdoorsy type stuff I guess, but I kinda feel like once you've seen one bit you've seen it all. Same all over GB. I can think of some decent buildings though.

I've got a belter but it's not in the UK. I am excited to see what PS posts.
